  • • As a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Navigation & Search UI at DICK'S Sporting Goods, you will be at the forefront of enhancing the digital experience for millions of athletes. This role is pivotal in shaping how customers discover products on our e-commerce platform, demanding a blend of technical expertise, creative problem-solving, and a deep understanding of user interface design principles.
  • • You will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of features within the Navigation and Search Entry team, encompassing both the delivery of new functionalities and the ongoing ownership and improvement of existing applications. This dual responsibility ensures a holistic approach to software development, where you'll not only build but also maintain and optimize critical user-facing components.
  • • A significant aspect of your role will involve collaborating closely with stakeholders, including product managers, designers, and other engineering teams, to translate business requirements and user needs into robust, scalable, and performant UI solutions. Effective communication and a collaborative spirit are paramount to success in this position.
  • • You will proactively identify and implement improvements to system performance, scalability, and reliability. This includes optimizing code, refining architecture, and ensuring our search and navigation interfaces are not only functional but also exceptionally fast and responsive, directly impacting user satisfaction and conversion rates.
  • • This position offers the opportunity to model and foster a culture of continuous learning and growth within the team. You will be encouraged to explore new technologies, share knowledge, and mentor junior engineers, contributing to the overall technical excellence and professional development of the team.
  • • Your responsibilities will span the entire software development process, from initial design and conceptualization through to implementation, testing, and deployment. You will produce multiple concepts and prototypes to design digital products and services, ensuring they align with user needs and business objectives.
  • • You will drive the development of new software and contribute to the enhancement of existing systems by analyzing areas for modification and improvement. The software you develop must be fast, secure, and reliable, meeting all defined requirements and exceeding user expectations.
  • • Maintenance of software is a key component, where you will monitor, identify, and correct complex software defects. You will leverage the support and skills of more junior teammates, providing guidance and ensuring the stability of our applications.
  • • You will research and suggest innovative ways to optimize solutions, ensuring they better meet user and business needs, with a particular focus on performance and quality. This includes staying abreast of Core Web Vitals and other performance metrics.
  • • Contributing to the software roadmap is essential. You will drive the maintenance roadmap to facilitate software development and ensure that development work is prioritized effectively in line with overarching business requirements.
  • • You will be adept at diagnosing and correcting faults, finding root causes and implementing resolutions promptly to minimize any disruption to the user experience.
  • • While working within an Agile/Scrum framework, you will be involved in work scheduling and allocation, assigning short-term work schedules to the team based on the product backlog to achieve expectations while adhering to established timelines.
  • • Continuous learning and development are encouraged. You will be expected to develop your own capabilities and those of more junior team members through assessment, development planning, formal and informal training, and coaching. Maintaining an understanding of relevant technologies, external regulations, and industry best practices through ongoing education, conferences, and specialist media is crucial.
  • • You will support program management efforts by contributing to work within established program management plans to achieve specific goals, ensuring alignment between technical execution and strategic objectives.
  • • Guiding and delivering the design distribution of basic cloud resources and providing services to tune solutions for optimum performance will be part of your responsibilities, leveraging your understanding of cloud application architecture.
  • • You will support the collection of functional requirements through document analysis and workflow analysis, translating these into clear user roles and goals for development.
  • • The role requires a proactive and innovative mindset, anticipating and adopting new digital and technology applications. You will use digital tools to benefit the team and add value to the work being done, understanding best practices and avoiding misuse.
  • • You will demonstrate courage by stepping up to address difficult issues, openly sharing your ideas and points of view, and showing conviction when faced with adversity.
  • • Excellent decision-making skills are expected, making good and timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward, knowing when to act independently and when to escalate issues.
  • • An action-oriented approach is vital, taking on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency and enthusiasm.
  • • Collaboration is key, building partnerships and working effectively with others to meet shared objectives, discouraging siloed thinking and appreciating diverse input.
  • • Instilling trust through honesty, integrity, and authenticity will be a hallmark of your interactions, following through on commitments and being straightforward.
  • • A strong customer focus is essential, building relationships and delivering customer-centric solutions by understanding customer feedback and emerging needs to drive innovation.
