- • Lead the development and evolution of Sentry’s JavaScript SDKs across modern server-side and edge runtimes including Node.js, Bun, Deno, and Cloudflare Workers, ensuring robustness, performance, and compatibility across diverse execution environments.
- • Take end-to-end ownership of feature development, from initial design and implementation through testing, documentation, and deployment, ensuring high-quality outcomes that meet both internal standards and external developer expectations.
- • Build and maintain open-source JavaScript libraries that are consumed by millions of developers globally, with a focus on clarity, reliability, and ease of integration into existing applications.
- • Leverage AI tools to enhance developer productivity, automating routine tasks while focusing engineering effort on solving complex problems in error tracking, performance monitoring, and runtime instrumentation.
- • Collaborate directly with the Customer Operations team to investigate and resolve critical production bugs reported by users, ensuring rapid response and high customer satisfaction.
- • Represent Sentry in the broader JavaScript ecosystem by participating in open-source communities including TC39, the Node.js core team, and the OpenTelemetry SIG, contributing to standards that shape the future of server-side JavaScript.
- • Engage with the developer community on GitHub and at industry conferences, gathering feedback, answering technical questions, and promoting best practices for using Sentry’s SDKs in real-world applications.
- • Design and implement instrumentation for server-side and edge environments that capture meaningful performance and error data without impacting application performance or developer experience.
- • Write comprehensive, developer-friendly documentation that explains SDK usage, configuration options, migration paths, and troubleshooting techniques for both novice and advanced users.
- • Advocate for and implement improvements to module system compatibility, runtime-specific APIs, and deployment models across Node.js, Bun, Deno, and Cloudflare Workers, addressing differences in module resolution, global objects, and async handling.
- • Drive innovation in developer tooling by identifying gaps in the JavaScript ecosystem and proposing or building solutions that improve observability, debugging, and error reporting for modern serverless and edge applications.
- • Maintain a strong commitment to code quality through rigorous unit and integration testing, automated CI/CD pipelines, and peer code reviews that uphold the high standards of a globally trusted developer platform.
- • Work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment where shipping high-impact code is prioritized, and technical debt is actively addressed to ensure long-term maintainability and scalability of the SDK suite.
- • Contribute to the strategic direction of the JavaScript SDK team by participating in roadmap planning, technical decision-making, and prioritization of features based on user needs and ecosystem trends.
🎯 Requirements
- • At least 5 years of experience as a Software Engineer, web developer, or a similar role
- • Deep expertise in developing web applications, libraries, or SDKs using TypeScript/JavaScript
- • Hands-on experience with Node.js and meaningful exposure to one or more modern server runtimes such as Bun, Deno, or Cloudflare Workers — with a solid understanding of how they differ in module systems, APIs, performance characteristics, and deployment models
- • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English
- • You're based in San Francisco (Bay Area) or are excited about the prospect of relocating to this thriving tech hub
