Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Design, build, and maintain high-scale backend data processing pipelines that handle approximately 2 billion assets daily, including License Plate Recognition data, audio clips, and images—without processing raw video.
- • Lead architectural improvements to reduce pipeline latency, enhance scalability, and ensure system reliability under massive data ingestion loads.
- • Develop and optimize distributed systems using microservice-oriented architecture, with a focus on performance, fault tolerance, and efficient resource utilization.
- • Write production-grade code primarily in TypeScript (Node.js), with increasing emphasis on Go as the team transitions toward a more Go-heavy codebase.
- • Design and tune database interactions across PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, and OpenSearch, with specific focus on optimizing PostgreSQL performance under concurrent service access.
- • Implement and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS using Kubernetes (EKS), SQS, SNS, Docker, and other native AWS services to support real-time data workflows.
- • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Hardware, Machine Learning, Web, Mobile, and Data Science to align pipeline capabilities with product and operational needs.
- • Act as a domain expert for the pipeline system, mentoring junior engineers through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and identifying teaching moments to elevate team capability.
- • Proactively identify risks in system stability, feature development, and operational processes, proposing solutions with foresight and flexibility.
- • Contribute to technical decision-making by evaluating trade-offs, proposing architectural alternatives, and driving consensus across engineering teams.
- • Participate in software engineering demo days by presenting work completed over the past months to the broader engineering organization.
- • Onboard into existing systems within 30 days, gaining familiarity with pipeline architecture, data flows, and team workflows through collaboration and public knowledge sharing.
- • Within 60 days, operate with reduced guidance, proposing solutions independently and navigating the codebase confidently while engaging meaningfully in technical discussions.
- • By day 90, take ownership of complex, ambiguous engineering tasks with minimal supervision, deliver transparent progress updates, and initiate improvements to software development practices.
- • Maintain compliance with FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy requirements, including passing a fingerprint-based background check as a condition of employment.
🎯 Requirements
- • Extensive experience writing production-grade backend code in TypeScript (Node.js) with deep understanding of async patterns and complex type systems
- • Proven experience designing and scaling distributed systems and microservices handling high-volume, real-time data ingestion
- • Hands-on experience with AWS services including Kubernetes (EKS), SQS, SNS, Docker, and cloud-native tooling
- • Strong proficiency in database systems including PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, and OpenSearch, with ability to optimize performance under load
- • Willingness and ability to rapidly scale proficiency in Go as the team transitions toward a Go-heavy architecture
- • Demonstrated experience mentoring junior engineers through code reviews and fostering team growth
🏖️ Benefits
- • Flexible non-accrual PTO plus 11 company holidays
- • Fully-paid medical, dental, and vision health benefits with HSA match
- • 12 weeks of 100% paid parental leave, with an additional 6–8 weeks of physical recovery time for birthing parents
- • $50,000 lifetime maximum benefit for eligible adoption, surrogacy, or fertility expenses through Maven
- • $150 monthly WFH stipend, $750 one-time home office stipend, and $300 annual productivity stipend
- • Access to Spring Health for personalized mental health support and Cariloop for caregiver assistance
- • 1:1 sessions with Carta Tax Advisors for equity and grant tax planning
- • Participation in four Employee Resource Groups: Women of Flock, Flock Proud, LEOs, and Melanin Motion
- • Requirement to obtain and maintain FBI CJIS certification as a condition of employment
