📋 Description

• As a Senior Software Engineer, Product Foundations at Patreon, you will play a critical role in building the scalable backend infrastructure that powers a platform supporting over 300,000 creators and enabling $10 billion+ in creator earnings since inception. Your work will directly contribute to Patreon’s mission of funding the creative class by ensuring reliable, high-performance systems that support paid memberships, community chats, live video, and direct sales features used by millions of fans and creators worldwide.
• You will design and implement backend systems capable of handling millions of daily requests, focusing on performance, scalability, and maintainability to support Patreon’s rapid growth and evolving product needs in the creator economy.
• Your day-to-day responsibilities will include writing efficient, clean, and testable code primarily in Python, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks, and building robust RESTful APIs that serve both web and mobile applications with low latency and high availability.
• You will collaborate closely with product engineers, product managers, designers, and infrastructure teams to deliver new features on time, participate in architectural discussions, and contribute to the development of shared backend services and a modular data abstraction layer that enables consistency across product teams.
• You will engage in code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and help establish best practices for backend development, ensuring systems are observable, resilient, and aligned with Patreon’s engineering standards.
• The Product Foundations team partners with product engineering to create reusable backend services that reduce duplication and increase system reliability, working in tandem with backend and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration and operational excellence.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in backend software engineering
• Strong proficiency in Python or a similar backend language (e.g., Java, Go)
• Solid understanding of RESTful API design and development
• Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL) and NoSQL databases
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional partners
