- • Senior Software Engineer - Ruby role focused on building and maintaining mission-critical payment processing systems for BigCommerce’s global merchant base.
- • Design, implement, and maintain Ruby on Rails services for payment flows, ensuring production-grade code with test coverage, observability, and documentation.
- • Troubleshoot production issues, participate in incident reviews, and optimize performance and security of backend services.
- • Collaborate with product, design, infrastructure, and operations teams to define features, improve architecture, and mentor fellow engineers.
- • Work within the Core Payment Engineering team at Commerce, the parent company of BigCommerce, Feedonomics, and Makeswift, supporting scalable, secure e-commerce ecosystems.
- • Opportunity to impact revenue-critical systems used by millions of shoppers while growing expertise in high-scale, secure backend engineering.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of professional backend development experience with strong focus on Ruby on Rails
- • Solid understanding of production-grade systems including logs, traces, metrics, feature flags, and live traffic debugging
- • Familiarity with observability tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, Sentry, and Lightstep
- • Demonstrated experience integrating with third-party APIs, especially those with complex state transitions like payment flows
- • Experience with eCommerce and SaaS platforms highly preferred
- • Bachelor’s degree in CS, EE, SW, CE, MIS, or equivalent experience/completed software engineering boot camp
