📋 Description

• As a Senior Software Engineer on the Scale team at Airwallex, you will play a pivotal role in building and maintaining the embedded finance platform that powers global enterprises such as Rippling, Navan, Qantas, and SHEIN. Your work will directly enable these companies to offer seamless financial services to their users, making a tangible impact on how businesses manage payments, spend, and treasury operations at scale.
• You will architect and evolve multi-tenant systems designed for high availability, low latency, and massive throughput, ensuring enterprise-grade SLAs are met even under peak loads and across geographically distributed data centers. This involves solving complex problems related to data consistency, fault tolerance, and performance optimization in a cloud-native environment.
• Beyond infrastructure, you will own cross-domain product features that sit at the intersection of business, regulatory, and technical domains—such as tax calculation engines, compliance workflows, and monetization tools—where end-to-end ownership is required due to the absence of a single team with full coverage.
• You will act as a solutions architect for enterprise prospects, translating complex business requirements into scalable technical designs that directly influence sales outcomes, including the ability to win multi-million-dollar contracts and differentiate Airwallex in competitive markets.
• Day to day, you will write clean, maintainable Java/Spring Boot code, conduct design and code reviews, and collaborate with product, design, compliance, and sales teams to define and deliver features that balance speed, correctness, and business impact.
• You will drive technical decisions around abstraction boundaries, performance optimization, and system simplicity, making pragmatic trade-offs based on real-world usage patterns and customer needs.
• You will mentor junior engineers, contribute to architectural best practices, and help evolve the team’s standards for observability, testing, and deployment hygiene in a fast-moving, high-stakes environment.
• You will work with technologies including PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), applying your expertise to tune systems for 100k+ QPS scenarios while ensuring data residency and cross-region compliance.
• You will design and document APIs using OAuth2.0 and OpenAPI standards, creating developer-friendly interfaces that support both internal teams and external partners integrating with Airwallex’s platform.
• You will participate in on-call rotations and production incident response, ensuring system reliability and continuously improving resilience through chaos testing, monitoring, and post-mortem analysis.
• You will engage directly with enterprise customers and prospects in technical discussions, helping to validate solution feasibility and build trust through clear communication of architectural trade-offs and implementation timelines.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot
• Proven ability to design and implement scalable, multi-tenant systems with attention to performance, maintainability, and production excellence
• Experience working in cross-functional environments involving Product, Design, Compliance, and Sales teams
• Demonstrated skill in making pragmatic technical decisions that balance speed, performance, and business impact
• Bonus: Fintech, payments, or regulated industry experience; high-scale performance tuning (100k+ QPS); multi-tenant SaaS background; proficiency with PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, or cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure); OAuth2.0, API design, or developer documentation experience; cross-region deployment or data residency compliance; solutions engineering or customer-facing technical experience
