📋 Description

• Serve as a frontend-focused Senior Software Engineer on Flock Safety’s critical Search team, building and maintaining a high-traffic production system used daily by customers to identify patterns, follow leads, and support criminal investigations.
• Lead frontend architecture and development using React and TypeScript, ensuring scalable, performant, and intuitive user interfaces for complex data visualization and search functionality.
• Collaborate closely with backend engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver seamless end-to-end features with a 90% frontend focus while maintaining fullstack context for effective cross-team alignment.
• Design and implement data visualizations on maps using libraries such as Mapbox or Google Maps API to enable users to interpret geospatial crime and incident data effectively.
• Participate in PR reviews, champion code quality standards, and mentor teammates by promoting best practices in frontend development, testing, and architecture.
• Own and drive improvements to the Search system’s architecture, identifying performance bottlenecks and proposing scalable solutions for high-traffic, data-heavy applications.
• Engage directly with product and design teams to understand customer workflows and translate user needs into technical requirements that enhance the search experience.
• Contribute to technical documentation, including architecture decisions for major features, and serve as a technical point person for core Search functionality.
• Begin on-call rotations after 60 days to ensure system reliability and responsiveness to production issues impacting customer operations.
• Represent the Search team in cross-functional initiatives, communicating progress and technical trade-offs to stakeholders and leadership.
• Participate in customer calls to gain firsthand insight into how Search is used in real-world investigations and to inform product evolution.
• Maintain awareness of backend microservice architecture, including REST, GraphQL, gRPC, and PostgreSQL, to effectively collaborate with backend engineers on service integration and API design.
• Push code to production early in the onboarding process and progressively take ownership of larger, multi-repository tasks with increasing independence.
• Lead team-facing discussions, tech talks, or retrospectives to elevate team knowledge and foster a culture of continuous learning and accountability.
• Champion user experience improvements by observing and addressing usability problems in the Search interface based on direct customer feedback and usage patterns.
• Contribute to the evolution of Flock’s frontend engineering standards, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and performance across the product.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software development experience with deep mastery of modern frontend web technologies, specifically React and TypeScript.
• Proven experience with mapping libraries (e.g., Mapbox, Google Maps API) and complex data visualizations on maps.
• Comfort working with Node.js/Express for web services and a solid understanding of API design principles (REST, GraphQL, gRPC).
• Familiarity with core backend microservice concepts, including basic SQL (PostgreSQL or similar) and client-service communication patterns.
• Demonstrated ability to solve problems in ambiguous environments, take initiative, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-accountability culture.
• Strong growth mindset with a passion for coding, continuous learning, and building products with meaningful real-world impact.
