- • Lead architecture reviews, workshops, and technical design sessions with engineering teams and executive stakeholders to design data orchestration platforms on Astro, Astronomer’s unified DataOps platform powered by Apache Airflow®.
- • Design end-to-end platform architectures that integrate Apache Airflow with cloud infrastructure, compute frameworks, and data platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- • Review delivery work to ensure adherence to high standards for scalability, observability, security, and operational excellence in production deployments.
- • Diagnose and resolve technical issues during customer deployments, migrations, and platform modernization initiatives, providing direct guidance to implementation teams.
- • Build reusable tools, frameworks, reference architectures, and documented best practices to improve delivery quality and consistency across Astronomer’s Professional Services team.
- • Author and deploy production-grade Airflow DAGs, monitor execution, troubleshoot failures, and optimize performance through code refactoring and infrastructure right-sizing.
- • Implement data quality checks, alerts, and monitoring systems to ensure reliability and integrity of data pipelines orchestrated by Airflow.
- • Translate business requirements into scalable, production-ready technical architectures that align with enterprise networking, security, and identity patterns.
- • Collaborate with customers to define clear paths to production, manage scope, timelines, and stakeholder expectations during complex technical transformations.
- • Leverage programming skills in Python and SQL to develop custom solutions, automate workflows, and validate architectural designs through prototypes.
- • Apply familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, Docker, and Kubernetes to support automated, repeatable deployments of Airflow-based platforms.
- • Work with data platforms including Databricks, Snowflake, dbt, BigQuery, and Redshift to integrate Airflow into existing enterprise data ecosystems.
- • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and executive audiences, with strong documentation skills to ensure knowledge transfer and long-term maintainability.
- • Participate in occasional travel for customer on-sites and industry conferences, while primary customer engagements are conducted remotely.
🎯 Requirements
- • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, platform engineering, or solution architecture
- • Expertise in authoring, deploying, monitoring, and troubleshooting Apache Airflow DAGs in production
- • Proven experience designing cloud-native data platforms on AWS, Azure, or GCP with enterprise networking, security, and identity patterns
- • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL
- • Experience with CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, Docker, and Kubernetes
- • Demonstrated track record guiding customers through platform deployments, migrations, or technical transformations
