Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Own the product vision for the User Terminal Segment of Telesat Lightspeed, the next-generation LEO constellation that will begin global service in 2027. You will translate enterprise-grade connectivity requirements into an actionable roadmap that delivers fiber-like speeds, ultra-low latency, and unprecedented resiliency to aviation, maritime, government, and enterprise customers worldwide.
  • • Build, groom, and continuously prioritize a multi-sprint product backlog that balances high-impact features, technical debt, regulatory compliance, and long-term scalability. Your backlog will guide cross-functional Agile teams working on modem firmware, RF front-end, antenna control, and cloud orchestration for both fixed and mobile user terminals.
  • • Decompose complex satellite communication requirements into crisp user stories with measurable acceptance criteria. Examples include: “As an airline passenger, I can stream 4K video at 40,000 ft with <50 ms latency so that I have an in-flight experience indistinguishable from terrestrial fiber.”
  • • Drive release planning in lock-step with Systems Engineering, Network Operations, and Landing Station teams to ensure seamless integration between space, ground, and user segments. You will sequence feature roll-outs to minimize service disruption for existing GEO customers while accelerating Lightspeed adoption.
  • • Serve as the single voice of the customer inside the Scrum team, translating market feedback from aviation OEMs, maritime integrators, and defense agencies into backlog items. You will run quarterly customer advisory boards, synthesize win/loss data, and feed insights directly into sprint planning.
  • • Champion quality by embedding QA and security checkpoints into every story. You will define “Definition of Done” criteria that include modem BER performance under rain fade, secure boot verification, and over-the-air update success rates exceeding 99.9 %.
  • • Collaborate with Product Marketing to craft go-to-market collateral, pricing models, and SLA frameworks that differentiate Telesat Lightspeed in a crowded LEO market. Your technical depth will enable you to present at industry conferences such as Satellite, GVF, and APSCC.
  • • Influence regulatory and certification roadmaps by partnering with Standards & Spectrum teams on ITU filings, FCC Part 25 approvals, and Transport Canada certifications. You will ensure that user terminal designs anticipate future Ka-band coexistence rules and emerging 5G NTN standards.
  • • Mentor junior Product Owners and Business Analysts in Agile best practices, story mapping, and stakeholder negotiation. While you have no direct reports, your leadership will shape the product culture across a 100+ person engineering organization spanning Ottawa, Bethesda, and international design centers.
  • • Track KPIs such as terminal mean-time-to-connect, beam-to-beam handover latency, and customer NPS. You will present monthly dashboards to the VP of Product and use data-driven insights to re-prioritize the backlog in real time.
  • • Manage risk by maintaining a living risk register that covers supply chain constraints, semiconductor obsolescence, and geopolitical export restrictions. You will develop mitigation playbooks that keep the Lightspeed program on schedule despite external volatility.
  • • Travel up to 25 % to customer sites, landing stations, and antenna test ranges across North America, Europe, and Asia. You will witness terminal performance in extreme environments—from Arctic oil rigs to equatorial cruise ships—and bring first-hand insights back to the development team.
