Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Architect the future of global connectivity: As Senior Specialist UT Systems Engineer you will own the end-to-end technical vision for Telesat Lightspeed user terminals (UTs) that will deliver fiber-like broadband from space to enterprise, maritime, aeronautical, government and land-mobility customers starting in 2027.
- • Translate market use-cases into bullet-proof requirements: Distill complex customer needs—ranging from low-latency cloud access on oil rigs to secure comms for defense UAVs—into precise, verifiable system and subsystem requirements that flow down to modem, RF and antenna designs while balancing performance, cost and manufacturability.
- • Drive the Concept of Operations (CONOPS): Author and continuously refine the terminal-level CONOPS that define how thousands of UTs will power-up, acquire LEO satellites, hand off between beams, mitigate interference and gracefully degrade under extreme environmental conditions.
- • Lead vendor technical engagements: Serve as the primary technical interface to modem, antenna and RF component suppliers; run design reviews, negotiate interface control documents (ICDs), uncover technical gaps and craft risk-mitigation strategies that keep multi-million-dollar programs on schedule.
- • Orchestrate system integration & validation: Partner with internal UT engineering and architecture teams to decompose high-level requirements into subsystem specs, define test vectors and acceptance criteria, and oversee bench, chamber and field trials that prove compliance to latency, throughput and availability KPIs.
- • Own the deployment roadmap: Build and maintain a living master schedule that aligns terminal hardware/software releases, certification milestones and volume ramp plans with Lightspeed service introduction and long-term scalability across global markets.
- • Champion cross-functional alignment: Work hand-in-hand with satellite payload, network operations, cybersecurity, product management and regulatory teams to ensure every user terminal behaves as a seamless extension of the terrestrial 5G/cloud ecosystem.
- • Innovate for manufacturability at scale: Apply deep understanding of ASIC design, high-volume RF manufacturing and product-assurance methodologies to drive cost-per-terminal targets below market thresholds without sacrificing reliability in harsh maritime or aero environments.
- • Mentor and influence without authority: Provide technical leadership to multidisciplinary project teams and external vendor engineers, distilling complex trade-offs into clear recommendations that accelerate decision-making and foster a culture of engineering excellence.
- • Stay ahead of the regulatory curve: Monitor NGSO spectrum regulations, ITU filings and FCC/ISED certification requirements, translating evolving rules into design constraints and compliance test plans that protect Telesat’s operating rights.
- • Communicate with clarity and impact: Present architecture reviews, risk assessments and deployment status to C-suite stakeholders, board members and strategic customers, ensuring technical depth is accessible to both engineers and executives.
- • Travel strategically: Occasional international travel to vendor sites, launch campaigns and customer pilot deployments will keep you connected to real-world constraints and opportunities.
