- • As a Senior/Staff Data Engineer at AirOps, you will be a foundational member of the newly established data team, responsible for designing and owning the core data infrastructure that powers the company’s AI-driven content engineering platform—directly impacting how brands are discovered and trusted in the age of AI.
- • You will ensure the reliability, scalability, and correctness of data pipelines that process over 2 million AI-generated answers daily, with growth accelerating by hundreds of thousands each month, making your work critical to product performance and customer trust.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities will include building failover logic and monitoring completion rates across a multi-provider ingestion pipeline to guarantee data is always accurate and timely for downstream consumption.
- • You will own end-to-end data quality by defining and enforcing contracts between ingestion, processing, and serving layers, ensuring that what customers see in the product is consistent, trustworthy, and aligned with brand standards.
- • You will design and maintain high-performance async extraction pipelines to keep ingestion throughput ahead of demand, optimizing for scalability as new AI providers and product features are continuously added.
- • You will partner closely with product and backend engineering teams to ensure data readiness for upcoming features by aligning schema changes, instrumentation, and pipeline capacity before launches.
- • You will build and operate comprehensive observability systems—including dashboards, alerting, and health monitoring—across the full data stack (ClickHouse, distributed queues, scraping infrastructure) to enable real-time visibility and rapid incident response.
- • You will work with a modern stack including ClickHouse for columnar storage, Rails and Postgres for application logic, and distributed job queues, requiring you to bridge backend application patterns with data platform needs.
- • You will help establish the standards, practices, and cultural norms for the data function at AirOps, shaping how data engineering is practiced for years to come as the team grows.
- • You will have the opportunity to deepen your expertise in AI data ecosystems by working with diverse answer formats from providers like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity, turning raw AI outputs into structured, product-ready insights.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience building and maintaining production data pipelines at scale, including ingestion, ETL, and distributed job queue systems.
- • Hands-on expertise with ClickHouse or a comparable columnar store, including schema design, materialized views, and query optimization.
- • Demonstrated experience working with third-party data providers or large-scale scraping infrastructure.
- • Track record of designing and owning reliability and observability systems, including dashboards and alerting that detect issues before they impact users.
- • Comfort working closely with application-layer systems, particularly Rails and Postgres, to understand how backend services feed the data platform.
