Full Job Description

šŸ“‹ Description

  • • As a Senior Staff Developer in the Booking group at Jane Technologies, you will serve as a strategic technical leader responsible for shaping the future of scheduling systems that empower clinics and patients across North America and the UK. Your work will directly impact how thousands of healthcare providers manage appointments, engage patients, and scale their operations — making healthcare delivery more seamless, efficient, and delightful. This role is pivotal in transforming Jane’s booking infrastructure to support rapid growth while maintaining reliability, performance, and user-centered design.
  • • You will spend your days architecting scalable, event-driven systems to modernize Jane’s scheduling platform, leading cross-functional technical initiatives that span patient-facing apps, provider tools, marketplace integrations, and internal APIs. You’ll prototype solutions, unblock complex technical bottlenecks, and guide teams through architectural transitions — all while maintaining a hands-on presence in the codebase to ensure practical feasibility and mentorship through example. Your leadership will extend beyond individual contributions as you guide the Booking Group Architecture Team, facilitate design reviews, and influence company-wide technical standards through participation in the Architecture Leadership Team.
  • • You will partner closely with product, design, and engineering teams to evolve the end-to-end booking experience — from patient discovery and appointment scheduling to clinic workflow optimization and post-visit engagement. This includes enhancing the Patient Engagement App, improving clinic discoverability, refining messaging platforms, and ensuring all systems are resilient, observable, and designed for long-term scalability. Your ability to translate ambiguous problems into clear technical roadmaps will be critical in aligning teams around shared goals.
  • • Jane’s Booking group operates as a high-trust, collaborative unit within a founder-led, mission-driven SaaS company of over 700 remote employees across Canada, the US, and the UK. The culture emphasizes learning agility, humility, and psychological safety — where questioning assumptions and experimenting with new approaches (including AI-assisted development) is encouraged. You’ll join a team that values deep customer empathy, technical excellence, and the belief that every line of code contributes to helping healthcare providers focus on what matters most: caring for their patients.
  • • In this role, you will grow as a technical leader by shaping multi-year architectural strategy, mentoring senior and staff-level engineers, and influencing platform-wide decisions that affect thousands of end users. You’ll gain experience in balancing innovation with stability, driving adoption of best practices across distributed teams, and advocating for scalable, secure, and customer-centric systems at an organizational level. Success here means not only solving hard technical problems but also elevating the entire engineering organization’s capability to deliver impact at scale.

šŸŽÆ Requirements

  • • 15+ years of professional software development experience, with a university degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field; alternatively, 18+ years of industry experience through non-traditional paths (e.g., bootcamps, self-teaching) is acceptable, especially with advanced degrees.
  • • Proven experience operating in a leadership capacity at the Senior Staff, Architect, or equivalent level, including leading complex, high-impact projects spanning multiple teams and organizational domains.
  • • Demonstrated ability to shape and drive technical strategy for a group or department, including participation in long-term vision planning (12–24 months), roadmap development, and cross-functional alignment.
  • • Hands-on expertise in designing and advocating for event-driven architectures, system decoupling, and scalable backend systems, with a track record of establishing and upholding engineering best practices across teams.
  • • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including product, design, and executive leadership.

šŸ–ļø Benefits

  • • Competitive annual salary range of $190,400 to $309,400, with most new hires starting at $226,100 (accomplished stage), reflecting Jane’s commitment to paying for growth and potential.
  • • Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, mental health support, and wellness resources, detailed in Jane’s official benefits overview.
  • • Remote-first work environment with flexibility to work from anywhere in Canada, the US, or the UK, supported by a distributed team culture that values autonomy and collaboration.
  • • Access to cutting-edge tools and technologies, including opportunities to work with AI-enhanced systems and modern cloud-native architectures.
  • • Strong emphasis on career development, including regular growth conversations with managers, mentorship opportunities, and investment in learning agility and professional advancement.
  • • Mission-driven culture at a founder-led SaaS company where your work directly impacts thousands of clinics and healthcare providers, fostering pride, purpose, and meaningful contribution to ā€˜helping the helpers’.
