- • As a Senior Staff Engineer in Cloud Economics at Reddit, you will serve as the Cloud Resources Technical Owner for the Ads Domain, acting as the primary engineering point of contact for senior leadership and Cloud Operations stakeholders to drive financial sustainability in Ads Monetization at scale.
- • You will define and drive the technical strategy for Cloud Resource management, design and implement Cost Observability 2.0 with real-time spend attribution and anomaly detection, build internal platforms for PnL accountability, and architect automated frameworks for cost estimation validation and forecasting—replacing manual processes with data-driven engineering solutions.
- • You will join the Ads Foundations organization, which powers Ads Monetization at Reddit—a platform with 100,000+ active communities and 126 million daily active unique visitors—where efficient resource utilization is critical to sustaining one of the internet’s largest sources of authentic conversation.
- • In this role, you will set the standard for treating Cost as a Non-Functional Requirement, influence engineering teams across domains to adopt cost-efficient patterns, partner with Finance and Engineering leadership to translate cloud spend into actionable tasks, and scale observability and optimization practices company-wide through technical stewardship and mentorship.
🎯 Requirements
- • 10+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on public cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure) and large-scale distributed systems
- • Engineer-First Mindset: proficiency in writing code (Go, Python, Java) to solve infrastructure problems and build APIs that generate reports rather than just requesting them
- • Deep Cloud Expertise: mastery over Kubernetes, container orchestration, and cloud-native storage, with understanding of how architectural choices impact cost
- • Proven track record in building observability pipelines (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog) that drive operational and financial alerts
- • Skilled at influencing technical decisions in ambiguous spaces—able to convince senior engineers to refactor services for cost efficiency by demonstrating technical and business value
