• • As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Consumer) at Coinbase, you will be a pivotal technical leader within the Consumer & Business Group (CBG), driving the evolution of our trading and financial infrastructure. Your mission is to help Coinbase become the world's leading financial application by delivering unparalleled consumer and business experiences.
• • This role is designed for an engineer who possesses a deep understanding of large-scale backend distributed systems, coupled with a unique "Trader DNA" – an intuitive grasp of risk, velocity, and market mechanics essential for high-stakes financial operations.
• • You will be instrumental in shaping the technical strategy for complex financial products, taking ownership from initial architecture and design through to successful implementation. This is a hands-on position where you will be actively coding daily, serving as a critical force multiplier to deliver multi-quarter roadmaps that have a company-wide impact.
• • A key responsibility will be to spearhead the technical design and implementation of major initiatives across the entire Consumer organization, ensuring the robustness and scalability of our systems.
• • You will be directly responsible for ensuring a performant, low-latency trading experience for our global user base, a critical factor in user satisfaction and platform reliability.
• • A significant part of your role will involve reviewing and simplifying the existing technical architecture across our Trading and Financial Services domains, identifying areas for improvement and driving efficiency.
• • You will work to reduce dependency on shared platform teams by architecting and building robust, domain-specific solutions that are tailored to the unique needs of the Consumer group.
• • Conducting thorough technical risk assessments will be crucial to enhance the engineering rigor and resilience of our financial systems, safeguarding against potential issues.
• • You will define and champion the Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and key metrics that accurately reflect product quality, and then lead the charge in driving initiatives to meet and exceed these targets.
• • Your technical leadership will extend across large teams and multiple pods, influencing decision-making at an organizational level and setting technical direction.
• • You will play an active role in recruiting and assessing new engineering talent, specifically seeking out individuals with "Trader DNA" to further elevate the expertise within the wider engineering organization.
• • This role demands an engineer who thrives in ambiguity, capable of translating abstract business goals into concrete, executable technical roadmaps.
• • You will demonstrate a proven ability to lead other senior individual contributors and influence the direction of large, complex projects.
