📋 Description

• As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, Backend, you will be at the forefront of building the next generation of crypto-forward products and features at Coinbase, a company dedicated to increasing economic freedom globally.
• You will tackle unique, large-scale, and highly complex technical challenges that lie at the intersection of web-scale applications and cutting-edge blockchain technology.
• Your primary focus will be on developing foundational systems that are critical for driving user growth across the entire Coinbase ecosystem.
• This includes architecting and implementing robust solutions for an incentives platform, a sophisticated notifications system, and a dynamic presentation framework.
• You will be instrumental in scaling user experiences across all facets of the Coinbase product, from search engine optimization (SEO) and logged-out user journeys to seamless user onboarding, intuitive search functionalities, and effective referral programs.
• A key aspect of your role will be to drive a holistic and unified engineering strategy, ensuring engineering quality and excellence are embedded throughout the Growth organization.
• You will partner closely with the Head of Growth Engineering, Engineering Managers, and Product Managers to conceptualize and deliver mission-critical systems that directly contribute to user acquisition, engagement, and retention.
• The role demands a deep understanding of how your work translates into tangible impact on Coinbase's growth trajectory, requiring you to take full accountability and proactively seek opportunities to achieve significant results.
• You will be empowered with the necessary tools and skills to rapidly build and deploy products and systems, embodying a high-velocity approach to development.
• This involves not only moving quickly but also understanding the delicate balance between velocity and quality, prioritizing simplicity where feasible to ensure sustainable development practices.
• You will actively invest in and improve tools, systems, and processes to enhance development velocity, while also cultivating strong organizational relationships and cross-team expertise to dismantle any barriers that might impede execution speed.
• The Growth organization operates with a vision to expand Coinbase to a billion active users worldwide by implementing innovative acquisition, engagement, and retention strategies, supported by foundational infrastructure designed for long-term scalability.
• You will contribute to building a world-class growth engine by developing features, products, and systems that consistently deliver user value throughout their entire journey with Coinbase.
• This systematic approach involves rapidly launching, iterating, and optimizing new and existing features and products to fuel Coinbase's expansion.
• You will also be responsible for building resilient and scalable backend systems that not only support growth at scale but also enable faster development, maintenance, and iteration of features and products.
• Your technical contributions will span across the entire technology stack, including web, mobile, backend services, data pipelines, and machine learning components.
• You will be expected to drive multi-quarter roadmaps, effectively managing complex dependencies that extend both within and beyond the immediate Growth team.
• A strong track record of providing "horizontal" technical leadership across multiple engineering teams is essential, guiding and influencing engineers beyond your direct reporting line.
• You will possess the ability to drive quality and performance improvements across intricate, large-scale systems, with a keen understanding of the metrics and Service Level Objectives (SLOs) that truly reflect product quality and how to positively influence them.
• This role is ideal for an engineer who is motivated by impact, thrives on delivering outcomes rather than just outputs, and possesses a full-stack mindset, willing to dive into any area—product, backend, ML, data—to validate ideas and solve problems efficiently.
