• • As a Senior Staff Software Engineer focused on Data Lakes at Fivetran, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical foundation of the company’s Managed Data Lake product, enabling thousands of organizations to access reliable, high-performance data infrastructure with zero maintenance overhead—directly advancing Fivetran’s mission to make data access as simple and reliable as electricity.
• • You will partner with product and engineering teams to design, develop, operate, and continuously improve large-scale, cloud-native data lake systems using Java, Kubernetes, and modern open-source technologies like Iceberg, Polaris, Delta Lake, and DuckDB, ensuring exceptional reliability, low latency, and high availability for customer workloads across AWS, GCP, and Azure.
• • You will join a senior, high-impact engineering team in Germany (remote) that sets technical standards across Fivetran, drives innovation in open-source contributions, and influences cross-functional architecture decisions to elevate the entire platform’s performance and scalability.
• • Your day-to-day responsibilities include: collaborating with product managers to translate customer needs into technical capabilities; designing and implementing fault-tolerant, high-throughput data lake services; optimizing performance and latency across distributed systems; ensuring operational excellence through rigorous monitoring, alerting, and SRE collaboration; diagnosing and resolving complex cross-service availability and scale issues; contributing to open-source projects such as Apache Polaris and DuckDB; advocating for and integrating open-source standards into Fivetran’s stack; mentoring engineers and setting technical direction for long-term system evolution; and participating in design reviews, post-mortems, and architecture forums to uphold engineering excellence.
