📋 Description

• • The Senior Strategist, Advocacy Communications role at Best Friends Animal Society is pivotal in shaping and executing messaging strategies that drive grassroots and legislative advocacy efforts, directly supporting the organization’s mission to end the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters by 2025. This position ensures that advocacy communications are not only compelling and on-brand but also culturally competent and inclusive, mobilizing advocates across geographic priority areas to take meaningful action on animal welfare issues.
• • Day-to-day responsibilities include crafting and implementing strategic digital outreach plans to engage and mobilize advocates; drafting or reviewing content for public mobilization in key regions; managing the full lifecycle of public-facing legislative action alerts—from sourcing and editing to coding and distribution—under tight deadlines; providing copywriting, proofreading, and editing for advocacy emails, website copy, social media assets, presentations, and print materials; collaborating with cross-functional teams to align advocacy messaging with organizational goals while maintaining a consistent voice; serving in a leadership role across divisions to represent advocacy communications objectives; overseeing digital communications to the Action Team, including evergreen updates and campaign amplification; reporting and interpreting key advocacy metrics such as email and alert performance to inform future messaging; ensuring all content adheres to brand standards in style, quality, and tone; compiling and distributing monthly team reports to elevate internal knowledge of advocacy initiatives; and identifying opportunities to improve and streamline content and alert processes through new guidelines and SOPs.
