📋 Description

  • • Join Motorola Solutions, a global leader dedicated to making communities safer through innovative technology, as a Senior Systems Engineer in Florida. This pivotal role is instrumental in the design, implementation, and acceptance of mission-critical public safety communication solutions, primarily focusing on Motorola’s ASTRO 25 and adjacent technologies for state and local government agencies.
  • • As a Systems Staff Engineer, you will be the technical lead for smaller projects, guiding them from inception through system acceptance. You will also provide crucial support to other Systems Engineers on medium to large-scale projects, ensuring the successful delivery of complex communication networks.
  • • Your responsibilities will encompass the end-to-end design and implementation of robust radio networks. This includes the intricate integration of infrastructure components, subscriber devices, mobile backhaul solutions, and Wide Area Networks (WAN) and Campus Area Networks (CAN).
  • • A significant aspect of this role involves extensive customer and consultant interaction. You will lead technical design reviews, orchestrate customer-witnessed staging and acceptance testing events, conduct thorough coverage acceptance testing, manage live system upgrades, and spearhead troubleshooting efforts to resolve any technical challenges.
  • • You will be hands-on with system buildout, configuration, and rigorous acceptance testing, both in controlled lab staging environments and in the field, ensuring all systems meet stringent performance and reliability standards.
  • • A key technical focus will be on radio frequency engineering, including detailed radio coverage testing, comprehensive frequency analysis, and effective interference mitigation strategies to ensure optimal network performance.
  • • You will manage the critical process of radio system licensing, adhering to FCC and industry regulations, ensuring all operational aspects are compliant.
  • • The role requires the preparation of detailed system documentation, including system fleet maps, encryption configurations, and radio programming templates, providing a clear and accurate record of system architecture and setup.
  • • You will be responsible for executing live system cutovers and upgrades, managing these critical transitions with precision and minimal disruption to ongoing public safety operations.
  • • This position demands a deep understanding of Radio Frequency (RF) Engineering principles and Land Mobile Radio (LMR) Engineering principles, with a strong emphasis on RFDS (Radio Frequency Design System) principles. This includes expertise in antenna and cable selection, transmit combiners, receive multi-couplers, and lightning protection systems.
  • • Familiarity with APCO Project 25 (P25) Land Mobile Radio terminology and various two-way subscriber radio provisioning methods is essential for success in this role.
  • • While not mandatory, experience with Motorola ASTRO 25 architecture is highly advantageous, providing a significant head start in understanding the core technologies you will be working with.
  • • You will work with modern server and systems infrastructure, including VMware ESXi, Linux, and Microsoft operating systems, ensuring the underlying platforms are robust and reliable.
  • • The role involves understanding the construction of remote communication sites, encompassing site selection, grounding, compound development, and tower and shelter requirements, providing a holistic view of network deployment.
  • • You will gain exposure to and potentially work with advanced networking hardware, including Fortinet and Juniper firewalls, Nokia 7705 series routers, Juniper SRX/MX (Junos) series routers, and HP/Aruba and Juniper switches.
  • • Proficiency in remote access methods such as SSH, SCP, SFTP, and RDP is necessary for managing and troubleshooting distributed systems.
  • • Knowledge of point-to-point Microwave systems, including RF and Network design, is beneficial for understanding diverse backhaul solutions.
  • • Experience with FCC licensing and frequency search processes is crucial for network planning and deployment.
  • • You will engage with software application integration, understand Application Protocol Interfaces (API) concepts, and possess a solid grasp of computer operating systems and the OSI model.
  • • A strong understanding of networking protocols and devices is required, including OSPF, ISIS, BGP, MPLS, SIP, RTP, SNMP, NAT, routers, switches, and stateful packet firewalls.
  • • Knowledge of physical layer technologies such as fiber optics, copper cabling, and microwave transmission is important for designing resilient network infrastructure.
  • • This role fosters collaboration, requiring you to build strong relationships with colleagues, customers, and third-party service professionals. You will need to be self-motivated, possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and demonstrate strong interpersonal abilities to effectively navigate complex project environments and stakeholder expectations.
  • • This is a remote position based in Florida, requiring travel between 25-50% to support projects within the T4FL territory, with a particular focus on South Florida. The target base salary range for this position is $95,000 - $105,000 USD, with the final offer determined by individual qualifications and experience.
