Full Job Description
📋 Description
- • Join NVIDIA at the vanguard of technological innovation, a company renowned for inventing the GPU and now leading the AI revolution. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Software Engineer specializing in Base OS and Kernel development to drive the future of AI and High-Performance Computing (HPC) platforms.
- • In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in architecting and enabling the NVIDIA Vera Superchip for enterprise customers. Your primary focus will be on optimizing the Base OS, which is built upon Ubuntu and deployed on our cutting-edge DGX systems, ensuring peak performance for next-generation AI and HPC workloads.
- • You will serve as a key technical liaison, acting as a primary point of contact for our Tier-1 enterprise customers. This involves close collaboration with their engineering teams to facilitate the enablement and optimization of their customized Linux distributions on NVIDIA's advanced hardware.
- • A significant aspect of your role will be tackling complex kernel challenges inherent in massive-scale deployments. This includes optimizing for systems with extremely high core counts, multi-terabyte memory footprints, and intricate multi-rack system interconnects, all while leveraging NVIDIA's specialized architectures.
- • You will lead the critical hardware bring-up process for new platforms. This end-to-end responsibility spans from Pre-Silicon simulation and validation through to successful OS boot and ensuring production-level stability, working in close partnership with our Hardware and Firmware engineering teams.
- • To guarantee the highest standards of reliability and performance, you will design, develop, and implement comprehensive, fully automated test suites. These suites will rigorously validate kernel stability and performance, embedding quality as a fundamental component of our development lifecycle.
- • Beyond immediate project deliverables, you will engage in long-range architectural planning. This forward-thinking approach involves anticipating future challenges and ensuring that our solutions are not only robust but also scalable and maintainable for years to come, contributing to NVIDIA's sustained technological leadership.
- • This role demands expert-level proficiency in C programming, with a profound understanding of concurrency, locking primitives, and synchronization mechanisms essential for large-scale Non-Uniform Memory Access (NUMA) systems.
- • You will leverage your strong knowledge of core Operating System concepts, including advanced memory management (MMU/IOMMU), efficient interrupt handling, and sophisticated process scheduling strategies tailored for high-demand environments.
- • A collaborative and team-oriented mindset is crucial. We foster a "team-first" culture, valuing collective achievements and expecting active participation in design reviews, knowledge sharing, and mentorship to elevate the entire engineering group.
- • Exceptional critical thinking skills are required to effectively balance the demands of immediate project delivery with the strategic management of technical debt and the articulation of a clear architectural vision for the future.
- • You will have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art hardware and software, contributing to the foundational elements that power the world's most advanced AI and HPC systems.
- • This position offers a unique chance to influence the direction of operating system development for hyperscale computing, directly impacting the performance and capabilities of NVIDIA's flagship products.
- • Your contributions will be vital in ensuring that NVIDIA continues to set the benchmark for performance, scalability, and reliability in the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence and scientific computing.
- • We are looking for individuals who are not just problem-solvers but also innovators, capable of pushing the boundaries of what's possible in systems software engineering.
