📋 Description

  • Are you a seasoned Senior Web Platform Engineer with a passion for crafting exceptional user experiences and a deep understanding of modern frontend architecture? Hubstaff, a leader in workforce analytics and time tracking for remote teams, is seeking a talented individual to own and elevate our marketing site's frontend. This is a unique opportunity to join a fully remote, product-led company with a decade-long history of embracing distributed work, and to contribute to a platform used by over 95,000 businesses worldwide.
  • In this pivotal role, you will be the primary architect and custodian of our marketing website's frontend, which is expertly built using Astro, Vue 3, and Payload CMS. Your mission will be to ensure this critical touchpoint for our users remains not only performant and scalable but also a delight to interact with. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of our online presence, driving user engagement, and supporting our ambitious growth objectives.
  • Collaboration is at the heart of our engineering culture. You will work hand-in-hand with our Engineering Manager, talented designers, and skilled backend developers. Together, you will translate complex UI/UX concepts into elegant, maintainable, and accessible code. This includes evolving our comprehensive design system, streamlining content creation and management workflows, and delivering seamless, high-performing user experiences that reflect the quality and innovation of the Hubstaff platform.
  • We are looking for engineers who possess a profound commitment to long-term code health, architectural integrity, and the craft of software development. If you envision yourself growing with a dynamic team, contributing to significant product advancements, and building something you can truly invest in over the years, this role is an ideal fit.
  • Your responsibilities will span the entire frontend lifecycle. You will take full ownership of the frontend architecture of our Astro + Vue 3 website, making strategic decisions that ensure its robustness and future-proofing. This involves a deep dive into implementing performant, SEO-friendly static rendering strategies, leveraging Astro’s powerful hybrid rendering model to its fullest potential.
  • A significant part of your role will involve extending and refining our integrations with Payload CMS and other self-hosted headless CMS platforms. You will be responsible for defining reusable content structures and dynamic components that empower our content teams and ensure consistency across the site. This requires a keen eye for detail and a strategic approach to content management architecture.
  • Continuous improvement is a key tenet of our engineering philosophy. You will be tasked with relentlessly improving site performance, focusing on metrics like Core Web Vitals and Lighthouse scores, and implementing sophisticated caching strategies to ensure lightning-fast load times for our users.
  • While our core is Astro and Vue, we also rely on a self-hosted WordPress ecosystem. You will provide essential support and maintenance for these WordPress resources, guaranteeing their reliability, security, and seamless integration with the broader static site infrastructure. This includes coordinating necessary updates and integrations between WordPress and our static site to maintain a cohesive and functional web presence.
  • To foster consistency and efficiency, you will play a crucial role in documenting and maintaining clear developer and content-editor workflows. This ensures that new implementations are consistent and that our content teams can effectively manage and update the site.
  • Elevating our development practices, you will introduce and maintain automated frontend testing suites and drive improvements in our CI/CD pipelines. This commitment to quality assurance and efficient deployment is paramount.
  • Staying at the forefront of web development, you will continuously research and adopt frontend best practices, champion accessibility standards, and explore emerging frameworks and technologies that can benefit our platform.
  • This role offers the chance to work on technically challenging problems at scale within a supportive, remote-first environment that values trust, autonomy, and asynchronous collaboration. You will be a key player in a company with strong momentum and a long-term vision to become an indispensable part of every remote company's tech stack.

🎯 Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional frontend development experience, with a minimum of 2 years specifically working with Vue.js or comparable component-based frameworks like React or Svelte.
  • Proven experience developing and maintaining websites using static site generators (e.g., Astro, Nuxt, Next.js) and integrating with self-hosted headless CMS platforms (e.g., Payload CMS, Contentful, Strapi).
  • Expert-level proficiency in core web technologies: HTML5, CSS3/SASS, and modern JavaScript/TypeScript, with a strong understanding of their nuances and best practices.
  • Solid understanding and practical application of performance optimization techniques, responsive design principles, and web accessibility standards (WCAG).
  • Deep experience with Git-based version control workflows, including branching strategies, pull requests, and collaborative development practices in a team environment.

🏖️ Benefits

  • Fully remote, work-from-anywhere culture with a focus on trust, autonomy, and asynchronous communication.
  • Opportunity to work on technically challenging problems with a product used by over 95,000 businesses globally.
  • Long-term product focus, allowing you to build and invest in a platform with a clear vision and significant growth potential.
  • Competitive hourly compensation ($40–45 USD/hour) for experienced professionals.
  • Flexible, full-time engagement (~40 hours/week) as an independent contractor, offering a preferred working arrangement.
