- ⢠The Shelter Partnership Coordinator is a temporary, remote position based in the Richmond, VA area that plays a direct role in advancing Best Friends Animal Societyâs no-kill mission by supporting partner shelters in achieving lifesaving outcomes through hands-on work, program coordination, and volunteer engagement.
- ⢠This role is essential to the organizationâs success, as Coordinators act with urgency to implement sustainable lifesaving programming, represent Best Friends in partner shelters, and help build capacity through training, mentoring, and data-driven support.
- ⢠Day-to-day responsibilities include coordinating shelter partner support activities such as assisting staff with lifesaving programs, leading and empowering volunteer teams, serving as a mission ambassador in partner shelters, and participating in hands-on animal care including feeding, cleaning, walking, and medicating animals in Best Friendsâ facilities or during transport.
- ⢠The Coordinator will develop comprehensive knowledge of Best Friendsâ and community partner programs to match individuals and organizations with lifesaving opportunities, assist in creating engaging social media content, collaborate with marketing and other departments to support programmatic needs, and ensure accurate recordkeeping and data entry to maintain shelter statistics.
- ⢠Additional duties involve maintaining a safe workplace by modeling safe work practices, adhering to organizational safety policies, communicating hazards, and working collaboratively across teams to improve processes and achieve lifesaving goals through efficient, well-documented operations.
- ⢠The role requires flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends, nights, and holidays, with the ability to travel and stay overnight when needed to support partner shelters in the region.
- ⢠Coordinators must demonstrate kindness, inclusion, and the Golden Rule in all interactions, acting as role models for authenticity and compassion while supporting shelter staff, volunteers, adopters, and colleagues in a nonjudgmental, customer-centric manner.
- ⢠This position offers the opportunity to gain deep experience in animal welfare operations, develop leadership and program implementation skills, and contribute meaningfully to the national no-kill movement through direct, impactful work in shelter partnerships.
