📋 Description

• Join the Bangalore-based QA team at HCLSoftware, a division of HCL Technologies that is redefining how enterprise-grade software is delivered across on-premises, SaaS, and managed-service models. In this Software Developer DBMS QA role you will become the last line of defense for the quality of our next-generation database management systems, ensuring that every release meets the performance, reliability, and security expectations of global Fortune-1000 customers.
• Own the end-to-end quality lifecycle for new DBMS features—from early design reviews through automated regression, stress, and load testing—while collaborating with cross-continental development squads in an agile, sprint-driven environment. You will design test strategies that span heterogeneous operating systems (Linux, Windows, AIX, Solaris) and network topologies, leveraging worldwide data centers to simulate real-world scale and latency.
• Build and maintain a comprehensive automated test harness that covers both command-line and graphical interfaces. Expect to write code daily: Python and Bash for orchestration, Java or C/C++ for performance micro-benchmarks, and SQL scripts that push the boundaries of ANSI compliance. Your breadth of language fluency is more valuable than deep expertise in any single stack.
• Develop sophisticated stress and load tests that replicate multi-tenant workloads, measuring throughput, memory utilization, and lock contention under extreme concurrency. You will interpret results, isolate bottlenecks, and work with kernel-level engineers to tune buffer pools, index strategies, and storage engines.
• Contribute to continuous integration pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar) that gate every pull request with a matrix of functional, regression, and performance tests. You will monitor nightly builds, triage failures, and ensure that flaky tests are quarantined and fixed within SLA.
• Collaborate with product management and solution architects to translate customer use-cases into reproducible test scenarios. Your input will directly influence feature prioritization and release readiness decisions.
• Champion quality culture across the organization by conducting brown-bag sessions on test design patterns, mentoring junior QA engineers, and maintaining living documentation that keeps pace with rapid iteration.
• Innovate on test tooling—whether that means extending an open-source framework, containerizing test environments with Docker and Kubernetes, or integrating AI-driven anomaly detection to surface regressions before they reach production.
• Participate in customer escalations when necessary, reproducing complex field issues in-house and driving them to closure through targeted hot-fix test suites.
• Stay ahead of the curve by evaluating emerging database technologies (NewSQL, distributed SQL, cloud-native storage) and ensuring our QA practices evolve to cover them.

🎯 Requirements

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
• Proven QA experience on relational database management systems (Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Informix, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar)
• Strong SQL skills and familiarity with database internals such as indexing, query optimization, and transaction isolation levels
• Programming or scripting proficiency in at least two languages (C/C++, Java, Python, Bash); breadth across languages is valued over depth in one
• Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and maintain automated test suites within a CI/CD environment
• Nice-to-have: hands-on experience with GUI test automation tools such as TestComplete or Selenium
