- • Join Natera, Inc. as a Software Engineer 3 and take ownership of high-impact, cloud-native products that are transforming non-invasive prenatal testing, oncology screening, and transplant monitoring for millions of patients worldwide. You will architect, build, and scale distributed systems that process terabytes of genomic data daily, ensuring 99.9 % uptime for clinicians who rely on our insights to make life-saving decisions.
- • Own the full software development lifecycle for multiple microservices written in Python, Java, and Go, deployed on Kubernetes clusters in AWS. From refining user stories with product managers and geneticists to writing clean, test-driven code and shepherding releases through automated CI/CD pipelines, you will be the technical anchor for your scrum team.
- • Design and optimize data pipelines that ingest, normalize, and analyze next-generation sequencing (NGS) outputs. You will leverage Apache Spark, Airflow, and Kafka to reduce end-to-end processing time by 30 % while maintaining strict HIPAA and CLIA compliance, enabling same-day result delivery to physicians.
- • Lead technical design reviews and architecture decision records (ADRs) for new features such as real-time variant calling, AI-driven quality control, and patient portal enhancements. Your ability to balance short-term deliverables with long-term scalability will directly influence Natera’s product roadmap and competitive edge.
- • Collaborate cross-functionally with bioinformaticians, regulatory affairs, and DevOps to translate complex genomic algorithms into production-ready services. You will mentor junior engineers through pair programming and code reviews, fostering a culture of continuous learning and psychological safety.
- • Implement comprehensive observability using Prometheus, Grafana, and distributed tracing to proactively detect anomalies in sequencing metrics. When incidents occur, you will spearhead blameless post-mortems and drive systemic fixes that prevent recurrence.
- • Contribute to Natera’s open-source initiatives and internal SDKs that accelerate innovation across R&D. Your reusable libraries will empower data scientists to iterate faster on machine-learning models that predict fetal aneuploidy or organ rejection risk with greater accuracy.
- • Champion security best practices by integrating SAST/DAST scans, secrets management, and zero-trust networking into every build. You will partner with our CISO team to achieve SOC 2 Type II compliance and maintain the trust of patients, providers, and pharmaceutical partners.
- • Stay at the forefront of cloud and genomic technology by evaluating emerging tools such as AWS Graviton processors, Spark on Kubernetes, and federated learning. Quarterly hackathons and dedicated learning budgets ensure you can experiment and bring cutting-edge solutions back to the team.
- • Influence engineering standards across the organization by serving on the Architecture Guild and leading guild-wide guild workshops. Your thought leadership will shape coding conventions, testing strategies, and deployment patterns that scale to 10× current volume over the next three years.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of production experience building distributed, cloud-native applications in Python, Java, or Go, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity.
- • Demonstrated expertise with AWS services (EKS, S3, RDS, Lambda, Step Functions) and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- • Deep understanding of containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes, including Helm charts, service meshes, and GitOps workflows.
- • Proficiency in designing high-throughput, low-latency data pipelines leveraging Spark, Kafka, or similar streaming technologies; familiarity with genomic data formats (FASTQ, BAM, VCF) is a strong plus.
- • Track record of mentoring engineers, conducting rigorous code reviews, and driving adoption of testing practices (unit, integration, property-based, chaos).
