- • Design and build reliable, well-documented RESTful APIs consumed by internal teams and external customers at scale
- • Navigate and extend a large, mature PHP monolith by understanding existing patterns, respecting system stability, and making incremental improvements
- • Identify and address technical debt in a principled manner, balancing immediate feature delivery with long-term code maintainability
- • Integrate and maintain third-party SDKs and external services, ensuring reliability, robust error handling, and graceful degradation during upstream failures
- • Write clean, testable code that adheres to and elevates team coding standards, leaving every code surface better than when it was found
- • Collaborate closely with engineering peers and leads to conduct code reviews, share system context, and raise the overall technical bar across the team
- • Debug and resolve complex production issues across a highly interconnected, high-scale cloud infrastructure system, with speed, thoroughness, and clear communication
- • Contribute to architectural discussions and evaluate technical tradeoffs as the platform evolves to support growing customer demands and new product capabilities
- • Work within a Git-based workflow to manage code changes, ensure version control best practices, and coordinate collaboration in a distributed team environment
- • Maintain a strong focus on system performance, scalability, and reliability while developing features for a globally used cloud infrastructure platform
- • Participate in the full lifecycle of backend features — from concept and design through deployment, monitoring, and iterative refinement
- • Respect the stability of legacy systems while advocating for incremental modernization and improved code quality across the codebase
- • Engage in continuous learning and knowledge sharing to improve team-wide understanding of the PHP monolith and associated infrastructure components
- • Prioritize system health and maintainability without sacrificing delivery speed or customer impact
- • Support the platform powering hundreds of thousands of active customers across 185 countries, directly enabling developers and businesses worldwide
- • Ensure all code and systems meet security and compliance standards aligned with global data privacy regulations, including U.S. privacy rules and India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023
🎯 Requirements
- • 3+ years of professional PHP development experience in a production environment
- • Demonstrated experience designing and building RESTful APIs, including versioning, authentication, error handling, and documentation
- • Strong MySQL skills, including schema design, query optimization, and understanding of indexing and performance at scale
- • Experience working within large, legacy codebases, comfortable reading unfamiliar code and making safe, targeted changes
- • Familiarity with third-party SDK integration patterns and handling upstream service failures gracefully
- • Understanding of SOLID software engineering principles, testing strategies, and code review practices
