• • As a Software Engineer at Metriport, you will be instrumental in driving projects from their initial conception through to their successful production rollout. Your role will be characterized by a high degree of autonomy, minimal bureaucracy, and a focus on delivering tangible value to our customers. • • Your journey will begin with a comprehensive onboarding process designed to quickly familiarize you with our domain, our innovative technology stack, and our codebase. The primary objective is to enable you to contribute to shipping product features directly to customers as swiftly as possible, making a real-world impact.
• • Day-to-day responsibilities will encompass the full lifecycle of software development. This includes authoring detailed project design documents, actively participating in design reviews to refine solutions collaboratively, and rapidly developing initial versions (v0) for staging and pilot customer validation. You will then iterate on these solutions, transforming them from v0 to v1 by incorporating customer feedback and ensuring a robust, scalable final product for all our customers.
• • Example projects you might tackle include leveraging cutting-edge Large Language Models (LLMs) to transform unstructured doctor's notes into structured medical data for patient records, architecting and implementing an Opensearch cluster to facilitate rapid searching across extensive patient medical histories for healthcare providers, or developing sophisticated data transformation pipelines to convert legacy communication protocols from hospitals into modern HTTP-based webhooks for seamless integration with our customers' systems.
• • Beyond individual project contributions, you will play a crucial role in maintaining our high standards of code quality by reviewing Pull Requests (PRs) from fellow engineers. This involves a nuanced judgment call: knowing when to invest extra time to ensure exceptional quality and when to prioritize rapid delivery to meet business needs. You will be responsible for managing your own workflow using tools like Linear, actively participating in bi-weekly sprint planning and retrospective sessions, and contributing to quarterly planning initiatives.
• • We maintain a lean operational structure with a single mandatory daily remote stand-up at 7:30 am PST, Monday through Friday. Additionally, you will be part of a daily on-call rotation. This responsibility involves being responsive to system alerts, addressing critical customer issues, and proactively working on high-impact, non-urgent backlog items that enhance the developer experience (DX) and accelerate our overall shipping velocity.
