📋 Description

• As a Software Engineer at Safeguard Global, you will play a key role in designing, building, and enhancing core user-facing capabilities owned by the Connected Experiences team, including the home page, mobile app, account setup, and permissions. This work is central to delivering a seamless and intuitive experience across Safeguard Global’s products, directly impacting how customers interact with global workforce management solutions in over 190 countries.
• You will design and build scalable, event-driven backend services using AWS technologies such as Lambda, EventBridge, and S3; develop and support APIs and data services that power analytics, integrations, and product features; and own services end-to-end from design through production monitoring and optimisation, ensuring reliability and performance at scale.
• You will collaborate closely with Data Engineering to design and evolve data models using dbt and modern data tooling, build and support data pipelines across S3, Athena, and related AWS services, and enable high-quality, reconcilable datasets across domains such as worker, payroll, invoice, and usage to support analytics and reporting enablement.
• You will contribute to engineering excellence by participating in architecture and design reviews, promoting best practices in backend engineering and serverless design, mentoring others, and raising the overall engineering bar within a small, high-performing agile team responsible for secure, scalable, and reliable backend systems.

• In this role, you will gain deep expertise in modern cloud-native architectures, event-driven systems, and data platform engineering on AWS, while developing leadership and collaboration skills in a globally distributed, innovative environment that prioritises continuous learning, work-life integration, and meaningful impact on products used by multinational enterprises.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven ability to design, build, and own backend or platform systems that scale
• Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js preferred)
• Deep experience with AWS, particularly Lambda, S3, EventBridge (or SNS/SQS)
• Infrastructure as Code (CDK/Terraform/SST)
• Proven experience building event-driven, serverless architectures
• Strong SQL skills and experience working with analytical/data workloads
• Experience designing and building scalable APIs and backend services
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, data consistency, and reliability patterns
• Experience working with modern data stacks (e.g., dbt, Athena, Glue, data lakes)
• Familiarity with data modelling and transforming datasets for analytics use cases
• Experience supporting BI tools such as QuickSight (or similar)
• Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and production observability
• Comfortable working in agile, iterative environments with strong ownership
• Excellent communication skills
