📋 Description

• Architect and scale the heart of FurtherAI’s platform: you will design, build, and harden the distributed backend services that power AI agents handling millions of insurance transactions. Every line of code you ship directly influences how quickly global insurers can underwrite risk, settle claims, and serve their customers.
• Own end-to-end product features from whiteboard to production. You’ll translate customer pain-points into elegant APIs, data models, and micro-services, then shepherd them through code reviews, automated testing, canary releases, and real-time monitoring.
• Write clean, idiomatic Python (FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Celery) and occasionally drop into TypeScript when the edge needs to move faster. You’ll level-up our shared libraries, introduce new patterns, and leave the codebase unmistakably better than you found it.
• Collaborate daily with founders, a staff-level research scientist, and a tight-knit team of seven engineers. Expect white-boarding sessions at 9 a.m., pair-programming at 3 p.m., and post-mortems that feel more like masterclasses in distributed systems.
• Tackle gnarly performance bottlenecks: optimize Postgres queries that touch 100 M+ rows, squeeze millisecond-level latency out of message queues, and horizontally scale Celery workers to chew through AI inference jobs in real time.
• Instrument everything. You’ll add tracing, metrics, and alerting so we know when an insurer in Tokyo experiences a 200 ms slowdown before they do. PagerDuty is a last resort, not a lifestyle.
• Champion a culture of extreme ownership. If a customer demo is tomorrow and the pipeline breaks at 11 p.m., you jump on the call, ship the fix, and write the post-mortem before breakfast. Autonomy is given; accountability is expected.
• Shape the technical roadmap. Your opinions on architecture, security, and developer experience carry weight in roadmap planning. You’ll pitch new initiatives, size them, and see them through to impact measured in revenue and customer NPS.
• Mentor early-career engineers through thoughtful code reviews, lunch-and-learns, and pairing sessions. Your growth mindset helps the entire team level-up and attracts the next wave of world-class talent.
• Explore bleeding-edge AI infrastructure: evaluate vector databases for retrieval-augmented generation, experiment with serverless GPU inference, and prototype event-driven architectures that let agents learn continuously from production data.
• Maintain a security-first mindset. Insurance data is sensitive; you’ll implement zero-trust patterns, encrypt everything in transit and at rest, and partner with compliance to pass SOC 2 and ISO 27001 audits without slowing delivery.
• Celebrate wins loudly. Whether we close a top-5 global insurer or cut inference latency by 40 %, you’ll demo the impact, write the changelog, and toast the team on Slack. We move fast, but we never forget to savor the rocket-ship milestones.

🎯 Requirements

• 2+ years shipping production backend services in Python (FastAPI, Django, or Flask)
• Demonstrated experience designing scalable, fault-tolerant systems (queues, caches, distributed databases)
• Clear, concise written and verbal communication—able to explain complex trade-offs to founders and customers alike
• Nice-to-have: prior B2B SaaS or 0-to-1 startup experience; familiarity with TypeScript, Kubernetes, or cloud-native ML pipelines
