- • As a Software Engineer, Backend on the Presentation Gateway team at Covey Technologies (supporting DoorDash), you will help build and maintain a mission-critical API Gateway Platform that powers the presentation logic for DoorDash’s consumer, merchant, and Dasher applications across iOS, Android, Web, and other platforms. This role is central to enabling product teams to move faster by eliminating the need to manage their own backend services, directly contributing to DoorDash’s ability to scale its three-sided marketplace with reliability and speed.
- • You will design and build robust, scalable backend systems with a focus on long-term maintainability and engineering excellence, working across team boundaries to drive adoption of the Presentation Gateway platform. Your day-to-day will involve improving performance, reliability, scalability, and security of backend systems; championing best practices in API management, service discovery, load balancing, and fault tolerance; troubleshooting complex production issues; evaluating and integrating new technologies; and leveraging AI-assisted development practices to enhance platform capabilities.
- • You’ll join a team of experienced engineers dedicated to creating a 24x7, zero-downtime global infrastructure system that supports DoorDash’s rapid growth and mission to empower local economies. The team operates with a strong emphasis on collaboration, innovation, and operational excellence, ensuring that platform-level abstractions simplify development for hundreds of product engineers across the company.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in distributed systems, platform engineering, and high-scale backend architectures while making a tangible impact on developer velocity and system reliability. You’ll have the opportunity to shape the evolution of a foundational platform used by multiple client applications, gain experience with cutting-edge technologies like gRPC, Kotlin, and Go, and grow into a technical leader who bridges infrastructure and product needs.
🎯 Requirements
- • 2+ years of experience in backend, infrastructure, or platform engineering
- • Experience with gRPC, REST APIs, and service communication patterns
- • Deep knowledge of Kotlin and/or Go for building high-scale, resilient systems
- • Experience working on high-throughput, mission-critical production systems
- • Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts including consistency, fault tolerance, and load balancing
- • Passion for solving problems at the platform level and building abstractions that improve efficiency for large engineering teams
