📋 Description

• Design, implement, and maintain tools and systems that support service reliability, monitoring, and alerting for Airbnb’s global community support operations.
• Contribute to the full software development lifecycle including technical design, development, test automation, experimentation, analysis, and launch of reliability-focused systems.
• Collaborate with the CS TechOps team and other engineering teams to ensure services are architected with reliability, scalability, and resilience as core principles.
• Identify opportunities to improve the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of Airbnb’s services and drive implementation of those improvements.
• Promote operational excellence by raising the bar for quality, reliability, and availability across all supported systems.
• Continuously evaluate emerging technologies and industry best practices to enhance incident response mechanisms and system observability.
• Leverage AI and automation to transition incident management from reactive, manual processes to proactive, intelligent, and automated systems.
• Build and maintain large-scale backend systems that support both internal support agents and external host and guest experiences.
• Develop user-facing features with strong product and design instincts to create intuitive, delightfully designed reliability tools.
• Lead and ship large-scale engineering initiatives with measurable business impact across global teams.
• Provide guidance on appropriate use of tooling, automation, and reliability practices to cross-functional engineering partners.
• Balance short-term business needs with long-term technical quality through sound judgment and strategic tradeoff decisions.
• Communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders to influence technical direction and align on reliability goals.
• Work within a newly established reliability working pod in China focused on org-wide reliability mechanisms to support Airbnb’s growing global business.

🎯 Requirements

• 3+ years of relevant software development industry experience in a fast-paced tech environment
• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• Fluency in communication in English and Mandarin
• Strong expertise in building large-scale backend systems and experience with user-facing features
• Proven experience leading and shipping large initiatives with high business impact
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills with experience working across multiple engineering teams and cross-functional partners
