Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Join Notion Labs, Inc. as a Software Engineer on the Data Infrastructure team, a pivotal role focused on maintaining and enhancing the core data pipelines that power our rapidly growing platform. This is an exceptional opportunity to be the foundational member of our India-based engineering presence, working closely with a dynamic, four-person team led from the US. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of our data infrastructure, driving improvements in reliability, observability, and CI/CD tooling.
  • • As a key contributor, you will take ownership of significant infrastructure projects, starting with high-impact quick wins and progressively tackling more complex challenges. Your primary focus will be on ensuring the health and efficiency of our data platform, which relies on robust technologies such as Snowflake, Airflow, dbt, and a suite of AWS services including EMR, S3, and Athena.
  • • A core responsibility will be managing and advancing our Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices. This involves maintaining and improving Terraform stacks for both AWS and Snowflake resources. You will ensure that our infrastructure is properly tracked, modularized for reusability, and secured against potential threats, adhering to best practices in cloud resource management.
  • • You will play a critical role in hardening our Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. This includes implementing sophisticated alerting mechanisms for test failures, enhancing PR validation with plan previews and impact analysis, and establishing robust deployment guardrails to ensure smooth and reliable releases.
  • • Your expertise will be crucial in compute provisioning, specifically in setting up and maintaining Elastic MapReduce (EMR) clusters, with a future focus on expanding to Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS). You will be responsible for monitoring cluster health, optimizing performance, and scaling resources dynamically based on evolving workload demands.
  • • Enhancing the observability of our data platform is another key objective. You will configure comprehensive monitoring solutions, set up proactive alerting systems, and develop insightful dashboards. These tools will be essential for maintaining platform health, providing visibility into potential issues, and enabling rapid troubleshooting.
  • • You will provide essential operational coverage during India business hours, ensuring prompt responses to critical incidents. This includes triaging DAG failures in Airflow, addressing infrastructure alerts, and managing platform incidents, thereby significantly improving our team's response times and overall system stability.
  • • This role offers a unique chance to influence the technical direction of Notion's data infrastructure, working in a high-autonomy environment where your contributions will have a direct and measurable impact. You will collaborate with a globally distributed team, leveraging your skills to build scalable, reliable, and efficient data systems.
  • • We are looking for a self-starter who can independently identify opportunities for improvement and execute them with minimal supervision. Your ability to work effectively across different time zones and contribute to a fast-growing SaaS company will be highly valued. If you are passionate about building robust infrastructure and thrive in a collaborative, innovative environment, this is the role for you.
  • • Notion is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. We believe that a wide range of perspectives enriches our team and helps us better serve our global customer base. We encourage applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences, even if your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every requirement listed. If you are a builder at heart, share our company values, and are enthusiastic about making software toolmaking ubiquitous, we want to hear from you.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 7+ years of experience as a software or infrastructure engineer with a strong emphasis on DevOps principles and practices.
  • • Deep, hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, particularly Terraform, including managing large-scale stacks, modularization, optimization, and debugging complex issues.
  • • Proven experience in building, maintaining, and optimizing CI/CD pipelines, covering aspects like pipeline design, caching, artifact management, and deployment strategies.
  • • Extensive hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, including services such as EMR, S3, Athena, and EKS.
  • • Strong proficiency in SQL and at least one object-oriented programming language, such as Python.
  • • Demonstrated ability to work independently, identify opportunities, and execute projects with minimal direction, coupled with experience working across different time zones.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Opportunity to be the first engineer in India for a critical data infrastructure team at a rapidly growing SaaS company.
  • • High-autonomy role with the ability to own and drive significant infrastructure projects from inception to completion.
  • • Collaborative work environment with a globally distributed team, offering exposure to diverse perspectives and best practices.
  • • Competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience and location.
  • • Chance to work with cutting-edge technologies in data infrastructure, cloud computing, and CI/CD.
  • • Be part of a company culture that values innovation, collaboration, and employee growth.
