Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Join RoadRunner as a Software Engineer I (Full-Stack) and become the technical engine behind our mission to accelerate the road to Zero Waste. You will design, build and continuously improve the web applications that allow thousands of businesses to slash landfill volumes, cut costs and hit aggressive sustainability targets. Every line of code you ship directly reduces carbon emissions and moves us closer to a world where waste is a problem of the past.
- • Own end-to-end feature delivery across the stack. You will translate product requirements into elegant React front-end components, craft resilient Node.js or Python APIs, model clean PostgreSQL schemas and deploy containerized services to AWS. From pixel-perfect UI to horizontally-scalable back-end, you will see your work through every layer of the stack.
- • Collaborate daily with product managers, data scientists and operations teammates in small, autonomous squads. You will participate in story mapping, sprint planning and retros, ensuring that technical decisions align with customer value and sustainability impact. Your voice will shape both the “how” and the “why” of what we build.
- • Instrument and monitor everything you ship. You will add OpenTelemetry traces, CloudWatch alarms and custom dashboards so that we know—within minutes—when a pickup route is delayed or a customer’s recycling rate drops. Reliability is not an afterthought; it is the foundation that lets our customers trust us with their waste operations.
- • Iterate rapidly with a test-driven mindset. You will write unit, integration and end-to-end tests in Jest, PyTest and Cypress, maintaining >80 % coverage while still releasing multiple times per day. Our CI/CD pipeline (GitHub Actions → EKS → Argo CD) gives you the safety net to experiment fearlessly.
- • Champion clean architecture and modern patterns. You will refactor legacy code into domain-driven services, introduce GraphQL where it reduces over-fetching and evaluate new frameworks only when they measurably improve developer velocity or user experience. Technical debt is tracked, sized and paid down deliberately.
- • Surface actionable insights from our waste-stream data. You will build lightweight ETL jobs that ingest IoT sensor readings, normalize them and feed real-time dashboards showing diversion rates, cost savings and CO₂-equivalent avoided. Your work will turn raw data into the stories that inspire customers to go further on their zero-waste journey.
- • Contribute to internal tooling that multiplies team productivity. Whether it is a Slack bot that predicts container fullness or a CLI that spins up ephemeral test environments, you will create utilities that save hours every week for engineers, customer success and operations alike.
- • Uphold security and compliance best practices. You will implement OAuth 2.0 flows, encrypt PII at rest and in transit and partner with our compliance team to meet SOC 2 and ISO 14001 standards. Protecting customer data is inseparable from protecting the planet.
- • Grow into a technical leader. Through code reviews, lunch-and-learns and pair programming, you will mentor junior developers and level up our collective expertise. RoadRunner invests in your growth because we believe the best way to scale impact is to scale people.
🎯 Requirements
- • 1-3 years of professional full-stack development experience with modern JavaScript/TypeScript (React or Next.js) and either Node.js or Python
- • Hands-on experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL or MySQL) including schema design, indexing and query optimization
- • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure—AWS preferred (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS)—and containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
- • Nice-to-have: exposure to GraphQL, event-driven architectures (Kafka/SQS) or data visualization libraries like D3 or Recharts
🏖️ Benefits
- • Fully remote-first culture with quarterly in-person summits in sustainable venues
- • Competitive salary plus equity in a high-growth, mission-driven company
- • 100 % employer-paid medical, dental and vision insurance for you and dependents
- • 20 days PTO, 10 paid holidays and a paid volunteer day for environmental causes
