📋 Description

• As a Software Engineer II on Tripadvisor’s Data Platform team, you will play a critical role in building and maintaining the tracking and experimentation infrastructure that powers one of the world’s most trusted travel platforms, serving over 500 million monthly travelers and enabling data-driven decisions that drive millions in annual revenue.
• Your work will directly impact how Tripadvisor understands visitor behavior, optimizes user experiences, and innovates across its website, mobile apps, and customer communications, making your contributions essential to the company’s mission of connecting people to meaningful travel experiences.
• You will take ownership of end-to-end feature development, from initial design through implementation, testing, QA, and production deployment, ensuring high-quality, scalable solutions that improve system reliability and performance.
• Daily responsibilities include writing clean, efficient code in Java and related technologies, participating in code reviews to uphold team standards, collaborating with Product and Design teams to translate requirements into technical specifications, and operating across a modern stack that includes React, SQL, GraphQL, and cloud-based infrastructure.
• You will embrace a CI/CD mindset, routinely releasing code to production every few days as part of a daily release cycle, while contributing to a culture of continuous improvement by leaving systems better than you found them through proactive refactoring and technical debt reduction.
• Collaboration is central to this role: you will work closely with global engineering teams, share knowledge across time zones, and contribute to a ‘test and learn’ environment where experimentation drives innovation and business impact.
• You will gain deep exposure to large-scale data processing systems, including experience with Hive, Spark, Snowflake, and NoSQL databases, while applying software engineering best practices to build scalable, observable, and maintainable data pipelines.

🎯 Requirements

• 3+ years of commercial software development experience with a strong history of Java development
• Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design
• Experience with or willingness to learn technologies including React, SQL, GraphQL, AWS/cloud infrastructure, Linux, and data processing tools like Hive, Spark, or Snowflake
• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent field
• Proven ability to operate with a global-first mindset and collaborate effectively across distributed teams
