Software Engineer, Internal Tools

📋 Description

• • Own the design, development, and deployment of internal tools and automation systems that eliminate manual workflows across engineering, operations, and business teams at Metriport.
• • Identify repetitive, error-prone processes across non-engineering functions and build end-to-end automated solutions using TypeScript, React, and integration technologies to replace manual effort.
• • Build and maintain integrations between internal systems (AWS Athena, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, S3, FHIR server) and third-party services (Slack, GitHub Actions, PostHog, GSuite) using REST, OAuth, mTLS, and webhooks.
• • Automate developer onboarding by streamlining local environment setup and accelerating CI/CD pipelines to reduce time-to-productive from hours to minutes.
• • Evaluate, secure, and rollout new productivity tools (e.g., Zapier, n8n, Make, AI agents) in alignment with security and compliance requirements for handling sensitive healthcare data (PHI).
• • Design and deploy automated reporting systems that pull data from multiple sources (APIs, AWS Athena, etc.) to deliver accurate, scheduled reports without manual intervention.
• • Collaborate directly with stakeholders in Engineering, Ops, and business units to understand pain points, translate requirements into technical specifications, and deliver solutions with minimal supervision.
• • Maintain a security-first mindset: implement least-privilege access, enforce secure secrets management, vet third-party tools for PHI compliance, and never compromise data integrity for convenience.
• • Stay informed on AI and automation tooling trends, applying them judiciously to solve real business problems while rejecting unsuitable enterprise applications.
• • Prioritize measurable outcomes over architectural elegance—value a functional Slack bot that saves an hour daily over a technically perfect but unused abstraction.
• • Participate in a daily 30-minute remote standup at 7:30 AM PST, Monday through Friday, as the only mandatory team meeting.
• • Work in a high-autonomy environment with minimal bureaucracy; drive projects forward independently without waiting for direction.

• • Maintain and extend the company’s React-based internal operations dashboard to support new workflows and user needs.

• • Research and adopt secure, scalable infrastructure patterns using AWS CDK, Lambda, and other AWS services to power internal automation.
• • Act as a bridge between technical systems and non-technical teams, ensuring tools are usable, reliable, and aligned with real-world operational needs.
