📋 Description

• As a Software Engineer Lead Consultant at The Allstate Corporation’s National General division, you will play a pivotal role in architecting, designing, and maintaining critical digital insurance products that directly support the company’s mission to deliver innovative protection solutions to customers nationwide. Your expertise will ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of systems that power home, auto, accident, health, and specialty insurance offerings—impacting millions of policyholders through seamless digital experiences.
• You will lead end-to-end software development lifecycles for legacy and modern applications, bridging mainframe systems with contemporary cloud-ready architectures while collaborating across onsite and offshore teams in split-shift environments to ensure continuous delivery and operational excellence in production.
• Participate in inceptions and iteration planning meetings, infusing backlogs with technical input by working closely with product managers to align technical feasibility with business goals and user needs.
• Partner in cross-product collaboration and strategic alignment across product portfolios, serving as a technical liaison between product, engineering, and stakeholder teams to ensure cohesive architecture and shared understanding of domain complexities.
• Serve as a recognized expert in one or more business domains (e.g., Lender Placed Insurance Tracking, Loss Draft) and advocate for multiple technology stacks, sharing knowledge across teams to elevate organizational capability and reduce silos.
• Lead and facilitate daily standups, retrospectives, and team rituals—fostering psychological safety, empathy, and continuous improvement by encouraging open feedback and reflective practices.
• Provide hands-on support for software products in user environments, troubleshooting production issues, guiding resolution paths, and ensuring minimal disruption to policyholder services.
• Coach and mentor team members in disciplined engineering practices, including pair programming and test-driven development (TDD), to improve code quality, reduce defects, and build a culture of ownership and craftsmanship.
• Design, implement, and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines using modern DevOps practices, enabling faster, safer releases and reducing lead time from commit to production.

• In this role, you will deepen your mastery of legacy mainframe systems (COBOL, IDMS, DB2, VSAM, JCL) while gaining exposure to modern full-stack technologies (ASP.NET, C#, SQL Server, JavaScript, HTML/XML/JSON), positioning you as a rare hybrid engineer capable of bridging eras of technology—a skillset increasingly valuable in enterprise modernization efforts.

🎯 Requirements

• 4+ years of hands-on experience with ASP.NET, C#.NET, ADO.NET, HTML, XML, JSON, JavaScript, SQL Server, and MS-IIS for developing and supporting web-based enterprise applications.
• 4+ years of experience developing and supporting mainframe applications, including proficiency in COBOL, IDMS, DB2, VSAM, and JCL, with a minimum of 2 years dedicated to IDMS database operations.
• 24+ months of direct experience in Lender Placed Insurance Tracking and Loss Draft business services, including associated processes, systems knowledge, and hands-on application development in this niche insurance domain.
