📋 Description

• As a Software Engineer - Model Developer Ecosystem at Baseten, you will play a pivotal role in shaping how developers discover, evaluate, and adopt AI models, directly impacting the success of mission-critical AI applications across industries.
• You will own the developer-facing narrative for Baseten’s model library by creating guides, tutorials, demos, and reference content that empower developers to choose the right model for their specific use case, moving beyond simplistic benchmarks to real-world applicability.
• Day to day, you will build and nurture both sides of the model ecosystem by onboarding new models, engaging with model providers, and fostering developer adoption through education and community initiatives.
• You will develop evaluation frameworks and use-case-specific criteria that reflect practical developer needs, going beyond raw performance metrics to assess factors like latency, cost, interpretability, and integration ease.
• You will create community programs, events, and educational initiatives—such as workshops, webinars, and hackathons—that position Baseten as the go-to destination for model discovery and selection in the AI landscape.
• You will collaborate closely with product, engineering, and marketing teams to translate developer feedback into tangible product improvements, ensuring the model library evolves in response to real user needs.
• You will represent Baseten at industry conferences, meetups, and developer events, acting as a technical ambassador who communicates complex AI concepts with clarity and credibility.
• You will operate at the intersection of technical depth, community building, and product strategy, helping define what success looks like for a foundational initiative with significant growth potential.
• You will join a small, high-impact team reporting into product, where your contributions will directly influence Baseten’s positioning as a trusted infrastructure partner for frontier AI companies.
• In this role, you will deepen your expertise in the AI/ML model landscape, gain experience in developer ecosystem design, and develop skills in technical storytelling, community engagement, and cross-functional product collaboration—setting the stage for leadership in AI infrastructure or developer relations.

🎯 Requirements

• Hands-on experience as a developer — you can write code, read a diff, and engage credibly with engineers about technical tradeoffs.
• Proven track record in developer relations, developer education, or technical content at a developer tools or infrastructure company.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; you can explain complex technical concepts clearly to a range of audiences.
• Experience building or contributing to developer communities, ecosystems, or open source projects.
• Genuine curiosity about the AI/ML model landscape — you follow model releases, understand capability tradeoffs, and care about practical applications over hype.
• Comfort with ambiguity and a bias toward ownership; this is a new initiative and you'll help define what success looks like.
