Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own Render's core network infrastructure across multiple data centers and cloud providers, shaping how networking evolves as the platform scales rapidly.
- • Design and build customer-facing networking capabilities that enable users to flexibly connect, communicate, and route traffic for their services.
- • Investigate complex networking issues across the entire stack—from Linux kernel and data plane to distributed systems and edge networking.
- • Drive performance and reliability improvements through systematic profiling, tuning, and optimization of network components.
- • Partner with engineers across teams to ensure the platform remains stable, predictable, and secure for over 4.5 million developers.
- • Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to incidents, improve detection systems, and lead post-mortems to prevent recurrence.
- • Build and operate traffic routing and load balancing systems at scale, including ingress proxies and service routing mechanisms.
- • Extend and modify Kubernetes networking internals such as kube-proxy, CNI plugins, and service discovery to support zero-downtime operations.
- • Design hybrid cloud and bare metal network architectures, including transit and cross-cluster connectivity for multi-provider environments.
- • Enhance Linux networking internals including routing, netfilter/iptables/nftables, and conntrack in production environments.
- • Contribute to the evolution of Render’s next-generation compute platforms with networking innovations tailored for AI-native applications.
- • Collaborate on high-risk network changes with minimal downtime, ensuring reliability during platform-wide upgrades and migrations.
- • Leverage open source and industry-standard technologies while customizing them to meet Render’s unique demands for performance, scale, and simplicity.
- • Document and share learnings from network incidents and optimizations to elevate team-wide knowledge and system resilience.
- • Support the development of observability tooling to monitor network health, latency, packet loss, and routing efficiency across global infrastructure.
🎯 Requirements
- • At least 6 years of experience building and operating large-scale networking or infrastructure systems.
- • Experience with Kubernetes networking internals (e.g., kube-proxy, CNI plugins, service routing) or similar container networking technology.
- • Experience with Linux networking internals (e.g., routing, netfilter/iptables/nftables, conntrack) in production environments.
- • Experience building and operating traffic routing systems (e.g., load balancers, ingress, proxies) at scale.
- • Strong experience designing, debugging, and operating distributed systems.
- • Experience planning and executing high-risk changes with minimal downtime.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Equity with early-exercise options and extended exercise windows.
- • 4 weeks of paid vacation.
- • 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave for all parents, with supportive return-to-work planning.
- • 100% employer-paid medical coverage and 99% employer-paid dental and vision coverage for you and a dependent.
- • Monthly lifestyle stipend for wellness, mental health, therapy, and hobbies.
- • Monthly cell phone and internet subsidy, plus home office stipends for remote employees.
