📋 Description

• As a Software Engineer, Networking at Tailscale, you will play a critical role in building and maintaining the global infrastructure that enables secure, seamless connectivity for users worldwide—from individual developers to enterprise teams—by designing, constructing, and overseeing the Funnel and DERP relay systems that form the backbone of Tailscale’s network.
• Day to day, you will design and implement networking features and connectivity solutions, troubleshoot complex escalated network issues across diverse environments, enhance the performance and reliability of global services, contribute to the open-source client code and dataplane, apply security-centric development practices, and collaborate with product and engineering teams to ensure updates deliver broad customer value.
• Tailscale is a fully remote, early-stage company founded in 2019 and backed by top-tier investors including Accel, CRV, Insight, Heavybit, and Uncork Capital. We are building a new Internet that is easy, sensible, and safe—empowering teams of all sizes to securely interconnect people and devices anywhere in the world through innovative software.
• In this role, you will deepen your expertise in global-scale networking infrastructure, gain hands-on experience with Go-based systems and SRE/DevOps practices at scale, influence the evolution of core networking protocols like NAT traversal and VPNs, and grow as a technical leader by solving real-world connectivity challenges that impact users across Canada, the U.S., and the U.K.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven track record in networking software development and troubleshooting
• Expertise in core networking principles such as VPNs, NAT traversal, routing, and IP addressing
• Experience with distributed systems, maintaining global-scale services, and applying SRE & DevOps methodologies
• Experience with Go programming language is highly desired
• Strong interpersonal skills for exchanging constructive feedback and the autonomy to work solo
• Superior communication abilities, both in writing and speaking
