  • • As a Software Engineer, Networking at Tailscale, you will play a critical role in building and maintaining the global infrastructure that enables secure, seamless connectivity for users worldwide—from individual developers to large enterprises—by designing, constructing, and overseeing the Funnel and DERP relay systems that form the backbone of Tailscale’s network.
  • • Day to day, you will design and implement networking features and dataplane components in Go, troubleshoot complex customer connectivity issues across diverse environments, enhance the scalability and reliability of global relay infrastructure, collaborate with product and engineering teams to evolve hosted services, and apply SRE/DevOps practices to ensure high availability, performance, and security of live services through observability, incident response, and performance optimization.
  • • Tailscale is a fully remote, early-stage company founded in 2019 and backed by top-tier investors including Accel, CRV, and Insight, dedicated to rebuilding the Internet to be simple, secure, and sensible by making private networks accessible to everyone, regardless of location or technical expertise.
  • • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in distributed systems and network engineering at scale, contribute to open-source client code and product dataplane development, gain influence over architectural decisions impacting global users, and grow your impact through mentorship, professional development support, and collaboration with highly technical teams across the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Proven track record in networking software development and troubleshooting
  • • Expertise in core networking principles such as VPNs, NAT traversal, routing, and IP addressing
  • • Experience with distributed systems, maintaining global-scale services, and applying SRE & DevOps methodologies
  • • Experience with Go programming language is highly desired
  • • Strong interpersonal skills for exchanging constructive feedback and the autonomy to work solo
  • • Adaptability to thrive within a fast-paced startup environment
  • • Superior communication abilities, both in writing and speaking
