- • As a Software Engineer on the Platform team at Astronomer, you will contribute to the core systems that power Astro, the industry-leading DataOps platform built on Apache Airflow, enabling data teams worldwide to build reliable data products and unlock AI-driven insights.
- • You will work on foundational components including the Public API, authentication, billing, and alerting frameworks, directly impacting the reliability, scalability, and usability of a platform trusted by over 800 leading enterprises.
- • Day to day, you will contribute to the development of Astro Platform's architecture and components under the guidance of senior engineers, writing clean, testable code and participating in iterative feature development.
- • You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, frontend developers, and customer-facing groups, to translate user requirements into robust backend features and customer-facing APIs.
- • You will engage with frontend teams and product stakeholders to ensure seamless integration between backend services and user interfaces, delivering cohesive experiences for external users.
- • You will learn and apply industry best practices for building scalable, maintainable platform software, including distributed systems principles, API design, observability, and fault tolerance.
- • You will contribute to improving platform usability, reliability, and scalability by identifying technical debt, proposing improvements, and participating in blameless postmortems and performance tuning.
- • You will grow your technical expertise rapidly by working on real-world production systems, tackling complex problems in data infrastructure, and receiving mentorship from experienced engineers shaping the future of data orchestration.
- • You will gain hands-on experience with modern development practices such as CI/CD, code reviews, automated testing, version control, and leveraging AI-assisted development tools to enhance productivity and code quality.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- • Exposure to at least one backend programming language (Go, Python, Java, etc.) through coursework, internships, or personal projects
- • Familiarity with SQL databases and foundational understanding of distributed systems concepts
- • Experience leveraging AI coding assistants and LLMs (e.g., Claude, Cursor, Gemini) to accelerate development
- • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative mindset
