• • We are seeking a versatile and driven Platform and Infrastructure Engineer to join our growing, small but mighty engineering team of 20 developers. This role is pivotal in building and maintaining the robust technical foundations that enable Spellbook to scale and deliver exceptional experiences to our customers. You will operate across our entire technical stack, from core infrastructure to platform capabilities that enhance product development and system reliability.
• • As a Platform and Infrastructure Engineer, your contributions will be instrumental in shaping the future of our technology. You will focus on three key areas:
• • **Building Technology Foundations:** You will own and evolve critical foundational platform systems. This includes developing and maintaining robust solutions for identity and access management, defining and implementing core data models, and creating internal platform capabilities that streamline operations and enhance developer efficiency. Your work will directly impact the scalability and maintainability of our platform.
• • **Maintaining World-Class Quality:** A primary focus will be driving our service level objectives towards 99.5% uptime and reliability. This involves enhancing our monitoring and observability practices, implementing proactive alerting, and establishing comprehensive quality assurance foundations. You will also champion development best practices to ensure the highest standards of code quality and system stability.
• • **Enabling Development Velocity:** You will play a crucial role in reducing friction within our development environment and CI/CD pipeline. By introducing productivity metrics, optimizing build tooling, and implementing innovative solutions, you will empower our engineering team to move with exceptional speed and efficiency. Your efforts will directly contribute to a more agile and responsive development process.
• • **Key Responsibilities:**
• • **Infrastructure Management and Optimization:** You will be responsible for managing and optimizing our cloud infrastructure, primarily on AWS. This includes hands-on work with services like EC2, S3, RDS, and Lambda, ensuring cost-effectiveness, security, and performance.
• • **Infrastructure as Code (IaC):** Implement and maintain infrastructure using IaC principles with tools like Terraform or CloudFormation, ensuring reproducible and version-controlled infrastructure deployments.
• • **CI/CD Pipeline Improvements:** Enhance and maintain our Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment pipelines, automating build, test, and deployment processes to accelerate release cycles.
• • **Platform Capabilities Development:** Design, build, and maintain core platform services, including but not limited to authentication, authorization, entitlement management, and AI inference infrastructure. This requires a deep understanding of distributed systems and microservices architecture.
• • **Database Management:** Work with our NoSQL database, MongoDB, optimizing performance, ensuring data integrity, and managing scaling strategies. Experience with other NoSQL or relational databases is also valuable.
• • **Worker Queue Management:** Manage and optimize our background job processing systems, utilizing tools like BullMQ to ensure efficient and reliable execution of asynchronous tasks.
• • **API Development:** Develop and maintain robust APIs, potentially using modern frameworks like tRPC, to facilitate seamless communication between our services.
• • **Developer Experience (DevEx) Enhancements:** Proactively identify and implement improvements to the developer workflow, tooling, and environment to boost productivity and satisfaction.
• • **Monitoring and Observability:** Implement and manage comprehensive monitoring and observability solutions using tools like Datadong. This includes setting up dashboards, alerts, and tracing to gain deep insights into system performance and health.
• • **Service Reliability and Performance Optimization:** Continuously analyze system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations to ensure high availability, low latency, and exceptional user experience.
• • **Security Best Practices:** Apply a strong understanding of security principles to all aspects of infrastructure and platform development, ensuring the protection of sensitive data and systems.
