- • Design, build, and scale novel privacy features and infrastructure across ChatGPT, the API, and future consumer devices.
- • Build core abstractions for trusted execution environments and end-to-end encryption to ensure user data remains private, even from OpenAI.
- • Ship product features for private inference and storage while balancing complex trade-offs in security, performance, and usability.
- • Update build systems to increase trust and verifiability of software deployments in privacy-critical systems.
- • Integrate with safety and integrity infrastructure to align privacy features with broader AI safety goals.
- • Operate systems at scale with high reliability, including participation in an on-call rotation for production systems.
- • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across product, engineering, security, safety, policy, and legal to align privacy initiatives with organizational objectives.
- • Work in a hybrid model requiring four days per week in the San Francisco office.
- • Apply confidential computing technologies and encryption protocols to protect user data across OpenAI’s product surface.
- • Develop and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure systems that handle sensitive user inputs and outputs under strict privacy constraints.
- • Contribute to the evolution of infrastructure that supports private data handling for AI models deployed in consumer-facing applications.
- • Drive alignment and technical decision-making in ambiguous or rapidly changing environments with high-stakes privacy implications.
- • Ensure systems meet rigorous security standards while maintaining performance and usability for end users.
- • Participate in the design and implementation of verifiable, auditable systems that uphold user trust in AI-powered privacy features.
- • Work with Kubernetes and cloud orchestration systems to deploy and manage privacy-preserving infrastructure at scale.
- • Maintain deep focus on user privacy and security as a core engineering principle across all product layers.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of experience in professional software engineering
- • Experience building and scaling confidential computing or encryption technologies in production environments
- • Experience with Kubernetes and cloud orchestration systems
- • Proven track record of building and operating scalable, reliable, secure systems
- • Ability to collaborate effectively and drive alignment across cross-functional teams
- • Comfort with ambiguity and rapid change in high-stakes technical environments
