- • Build and scale Rerun’s commercial backend systems for ingesting, indexing, and querying multimodal temporal data at high throughput and low latency.
- • Design and implement core data infrastructure components using Rust, focusing on performance-critical systems that handle large-scale physical-world data.
- • Contribute to the evolution of Rerun’s open-source visualization tools by enhancing backend capabilities that support real-time data streaming and storage.
- • Collaborate with a remote, close-knit team across European and US-east timezones, participating in synchronous work between 1:30–5:00pm CET.
- • Own end-to-end design and architecture of backend features, from initial concept through production deployment and monitoring.
- • Optimize data pipelines for efficiency, ensuring minimal latency in micro-interactions and maximal throughput in batch jobs.
- • Work with data-intensive systems involving filtering, indexing, and query execution logic, even if experience is at a conceptual level.
- • Engage deeply with the layers between software and hardware, exploring performance bottlenecks and system-level optimizations.
- • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and iterative development cycles in a team that values agency, curiosity, and helpfulness.
- • Contribute to the development of tools that enable physical AI applications by providing robust, scalable data infrastructure for robotics, AR/VR, and simulation use cases.
- • Maintain and improve system reliability, observability, and scalability as data volumes grow rapidly across diverse multimodal sources.
- • Work with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) to deploy, manage, and monitor backend services in production environments.
- • Collaborate with engineers and researchers to integrate data formats such as Apache Arrow and Apache Datafusion into the core stack.
- • Adapt to ambiguity and iterate quickly on evolving product requirements, turning rough ideas into production-ready systems.
- • Take broad responsibility for the systems you build, including documentation, testing, and operational support.
- • Participate in quarterly in-person team meetups in Stockholm, Sweden, to foster collaboration and alignment.
- • Use whatever hardware and software tools are necessary to perform your work effectively, with full autonomy over your development environment.
- • Communicate clearly and effectively in English, both in writing and during synchronous collaboration with global team members.
- • Contribute to a culture of learning and mutual support, where curiosity and a helpful attitude are core to team success.
🎯 Requirements
- • 3–5 years of experience with async Rust, or a strong background in C/C++ with motivation to transition to Rust
- • Experience building and maintaining production-grade backend systems
- • Strong communication skills in English for remote collaboration
- • Curiosity about system-level performance and the layers between code and hardware
- • Familiarity with data-intensive concepts such as indexing, filtering, or query execution
- • Willingness to work within synchronous hours of 1:30–5:00pm CET
