📋 Description

• As a Software Engineer on Kraken's Blockchain Platform team, you will play a critical role in building the foundational infrastructure that enables all blockchain-related operations across the company, ensuring seamless, secure, and scalable access to on-chain data for trading, custody, and institutional services.
• You will design and implement high-throughput, low-latency services and libraries primarily in Rust and TypeScript, directly contributing to systems that process over 1.2 billion operations daily across 120+ blockchain networks, where performance and reliability are paramount.
• Your work will involve integrating Kraken’s existing infrastructure with emerging blockchains, abstracting protocol complexity so that product teams can innovate rapidly without needing deep blockchain expertise, thereby accelerating Kraken’s mission to drive global crypto adoption.
• You will architect and maintain robust data protection and access control systems where security is treated as a first-class requirement, leveraging your expertise to safeguard sensitive on-chain data and financial operations against evolving threats.
• Collaborating closely with product, infrastructure, and security teams, you will help define technical standards, improve internal tooling and documentation, and champion best practices in observability, testing, and deployment to elevate engineering excellence organization-wide.
• You will engage with open-source blockchain client communities, contribute to upstream projects when appropriate, and stay at the forefront of blockchain technology trends to ensure Kraken’s platform remains future-proof and interoperable.
• Operating within Kraken’s fully remote, globally distributed culture, you will work alongside passionate, mission-driven engineers in over 70 countries, contributing to a workplace that values merit, inclusivity, and continuous learning in the pursuit of financial freedom through crypto.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with a focus on high-volume, distributed systems
• Strong proficiency in asynchronous Rust, including experience with Tokio, async/await patterns, and performance optimization
• Hands-on experience with multiple blockchain ecosystems and familiarity with node operations, block parsing, and on-chain data handling
• Familiarity with API design principles, including GraphQL and gRPC, and experience integrating them into scalable backend services
• Comfort with core DevOps tooling such as Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and event streaming platforms like Kafka
• Proven ability to work with relational databases, logging/monitoring systems (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK), and cloud infrastructure providers (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
