📋 Description
- • Lead the SmithDB team as a hands-on Engineering Manager responsible for building a purpose-built storage and query layer for AI observability and evaluation, driving both technical execution and team growth.
- • Write and review production Rust code, lead architectural decisions on storage and query systems, drive performance investigations, and manage distributed deployments on Kubernetes while mentoring engineers and owning the technical roadmap.
- • Join a small, fast-moving systems team at LangChain with no legacy constraints, building a greenfield database under real production load with ambitious scalability goals toward trillions of agent traces.
- • Grow your impact by shaping a critical infrastructure component used by Fortune 10 and 500 companies, combining deep technical contribution with leadership in hiring, team health, and cross-platform coordination.

- • Production Rust experience — able to write, review, and structure Rust code at scale
- • Deep understanding of database or storage engine internals: query execution, storage layouts, indexing, compaction
- • Proficiency in systems performance analysis: memory allocators, CPU hotspots, lock contention, async runtimes (Tokio)
- • Experience deploying and operating distributed services on Kubernetes in a production, multi-tenant environment
- • Familiarity with cloud object storage (S3-compatible APIs, consistency models, cost/performance tradeoffs)
- • Proven track record of managing engineers — able to recruit, retain, and level-up a team while maintaining technical edge
