Full Job Description
📋 Description
- • Solution Engineer - Structural Design role at Neara Inc. focused on bridging utility design expertise with the company's physics-based digital twin platform to help utilities design, maintain, and harden their electricity grids against extreme weather.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include developing deep proficiency with Neara's AutoDesign platform, serving as a technical subject matter expert in customer conversations, partnering with Sales to craft technical presentations, collaborating with Marketing to shape messaging, working with Product to channel designer feedback into the roadmap, mapping Neara's capabilities against incumbent tools like PLS-CADD and Bentley, building scalable playbooks and materials, and engaging with utility stakeholders across technical and leadership levels.
- • Neara is a mission-driven company creating engineering-grade digital twins of electricity grids across four continents using advanced machine learning and physics-enabled simulation to empower utilities to stress-test infrastructure against hurricanes and thunderstorms, optimize investments, and build a more resilient global energy future.
- • The role offers the opportunity to multiply individual impact by helping define and grow the Design function within Neara's go-to-market organization, deepen technical and automation skills, gain cross-functional experience across Sales, Product, and Marketing, and become an expert user and external representative of Neara's capabilities while working on complex, real-world problems that affect millions of kilometres of infrastructure.
🎯 Requirements
- • 3–5 years of hands-on experience as a Designer, Estimator, or equivalent role producing distribution and/or transmission designs at a utility, EPC, or utility engineering services firm, including pole loading, sag-tension analysis, clearance and NESC compliance, bill-of-materials development, and work order management
- • Proficiency in at least one industry design tool such as PLS-CADD, SpidaCalc, OCalc, Pole Foreman, or AutoCAD, with a working understanding of the others and familiarity with utility CAD/GIS environments
- • Aptitude for code — ability to automate work, write macros, and read/modify scripts in Python, VBA, or similar, with excitement to deepen these skills
- • Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts like transverse load calculations to executives and business cases to designers, adapting messaging to different audiences
- • Credibility with utility practitioners, demonstrated by standing ground in design reviews and being able to do the same in customer conversations
- • Comfort with cross-functional work between Sales, Product, and Marketing, finding such collaboration energizing rather than disorienting
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary + ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan)
- • Significant career development and growth opportunities, including the chance to help define and ultimately grow a function
- • Highly meritocratic, non-bureaucratic, and low ego work culture
- • Opportunity to work on complex, meaningful products and real-world problems affecting global energy resilience
- • Fully remote work arrangement within the United States
- • Willingness to travel domestically to customer sites and industry events as needed (estimated 20–30%)
