  • • As a Special Projects Lead within the Intelligence & Investigations team at OpenAI, you will play a pivotal role in translating high-level strategy into tangible, impactful execution. This position is designed for a seasoned professional who excels at bridging the gap between strategic vision and operational reality, acting as a critical partner to the Investigation Team’s leadership.
  • • Your core responsibility will be to serve as a strategic and operational linchpin, blending the multifaceted responsibilities of a chief of staff, a strategic program manager, and an operational leader. You will be instrumental in building and refining the systems that enable the team to operate with maximum effectiveness, especially as OpenAI continues its rapid growth and scaling.
  • • A significant aspect of this role involves leading and orchestrating complex, cross-functional initiatives. You will be tasked with overseeing these programs from inception to completion, ensuring that critical projects not only commence but also progress efficiently and achieve their intended outcomes.
  • • You will be the architect of operational excellence, developing and implementing the frameworks and systems that allow the team to function seamlessly. This includes meticulously coordinating strategic planning cycles, diligently tracking the progress of key initiatives, and establishing robust operational metrics that provide clear visibility into team performance and outcomes.
  • • Your ability to identify and resolve operational blockers will be paramount. You will proactively address challenges that impede progress, ensuring that high-priority projects navigate through planning, execution, and completion without unnecessary delays or complications.
  • • Collaboration is key. You will work hand-in-hand with a diverse group of stakeholders, including investigators, analysts, engineers, and leadership across OpenAI. This close partnership is essential for ensuring that safety initiatives are executed with precision and efficiency, and that critical programs remain on track, even amidst high levels of ambiguity and competing priorities.
  • • You will be responsible for leading initiatives that may not yet have a clearly defined owner or path forward. In these ambiguous, high-stakes situations, you will take the lead, driving projects from initial concept through to successful execution, ensuring alignment among all relevant stakeholders across the organization.
  • • A crucial part of your role will be to distill complex information into clear, concise communications. You will produce written updates, develop insightful dashboards, and prepare strategic briefings for leadership. Furthermore, you will act as a vital connective tissue, fostering strong relationships and facilitating communication with partner teams such as Product, Legal, Global Affairs, Safety Systems, and Communications.
  • • You will contribute to the development and reporting of key metrics and team outcomes, tailoring these reports to effectively communicate progress and impact to a variety of internal stakeholders.
  • • The ideal candidate will possess a systems-thinking mindset, enjoying the challenge of building processes, metrics frameworks, dashboards, and OKR tracking systems that enhance team effectiveness without introducing undue rigidity or complexity.
  • • You will be a trusted advisor and a go-to person for operational challenges, embodying a collaborative spirit and a genuine desire to help others succeed. Your positive attitude and proactive approach will make you a valued member of the team.
  • • This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to OpenAI's mission of ensuring that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity by enabling the safe and responsible deployment of AI technologies. You will be at the forefront of identifying and investigating potential misuses of AI products, directly contributing to the development of data-backed policies and scaled safety mitigations.
  • • By precisely understanding abuse patterns, you will empower OpenAI to safely enable users to build beneficial applications with its cutting-edge products. Your work will directly impact the safety and trustworthiness of AI systems, a critical component of OpenAI's overarching mission.
  • • You will thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, embracing ambiguity and taking initiative to drive positive and safe outcomes in situations that may be novel and unprecedented.
  • • This role is remote-friendly, with a requirement to align with Pacific Standard Time (PST) hours. Alternatively, you are welcome to work from OpenAI's San Francisco office, with relocation assistance available for those who choose this option.
