Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Join Quantinuum, a world leader in quantum computing, and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of quantum technology as a Sr. Advanced ASIC Engineer. This exciting opportunity is based in our Broomfield, CO location, with potential for remote work, and is integral to the development of our cutting-edge Apollo and Lumos quantum computers.
  • • As a mid-career Electrical Engineer, you will be at the forefront of ASIC design, working closely with fabrication facilities (fabs) and integrating advanced ASICs into complex electrical systems. Your expertise will be crucial in refining system architecture, prototyping, and designing ASICs that power our next-generation quantum computers.
  • • This role demands a proactive and innovative mindset, as you will be immersed in a fast-paced, multi-functional, team-based, and technically challenging environment. We foster a culture where talent and initiative are recognized and rewarded, enabling individuals to stand out and thrive.
  • • You will collaborate with a diverse, integrated product team, including external partners, to architect and implement ASICs that directly support Quantinuum's ambitious quantum computer roadmap and strategic goals. This involves translating complex quantum computer requirements and evolving customer needs into comprehensive integration plans, with a keen focus on addressing scalability challenges.
  • • A significant aspect of this role involves deploying ASICs in highly demanding and specialized environments. You will gain invaluable experience working with ASICs designed for operation under extreme conditions, such as cryogenic temperatures, ultra-high vacuum (UHV), and in close proximity to highly noise-sensitive quantum devices.
  • • You will be instrumental in identifying key enabling technology areas for ASIC development. This includes leading feasibility studies, managing prototyping efforts, and executing risk reduction activities to ensure the seamless and successful introduction of new ASIC technologies into our quantum computing roadmap.
  • • The scope of your responsibilities will encompass the entire ASIC development lifecycle, from initial concept and specification through to final integration into our quantum systems. You will be responsible for planning and managing the execution of these complex projects, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
  • • Your technical expertise will be highly valued, providing critical insights that inform future product development strategies and drive process improvements across the entire organization. You will contribute to a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
  • • This role operates within a dynamic R&D and rapid prototyping environment, demanding agility, adaptability, and a strong problem-solving capability. You will be challenged to think creatively and push the boundaries of what's possible in quantum computing hardware.
  • • You will contribute to the development and definition of ASIC technologies that are fundamental to enabling the advanced capabilities of our quantum computers. This includes understanding the unique electrical engineering challenges associated with quantum computers, particularly those employing ion-trap architectures, and how electrical system noise can significantly impact overall error rates.
  • • The position requires a deep understanding of how cryogenic temperatures affect circuit performance, a critical factor in the design and validation of ASICs for quantum computing applications.
  • • You will have the opportunity to work with ASICs that integrate both digital and analog circuitry, including low-noise amplifiers, Digital-to-Analog Converters (DACs), Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs), passive and active signal filtering, and analog/digital control loops. Experience in the layout of integrated circuits and high-density routing conditions will be beneficial.
  • • You will be involved in ASIC prototyping using FPGAs and/or analog circuits, providing hands-on experience in validating design concepts before full tape-out.
  • • Expertise in managing ASIC power, performance, and area (PPA) trade-offs is essential for optimizing designs to meet stringent system requirements.
  • • You will be expected to demonstrate proven leadership abilities, including effective program execution, and contribute to the skills development and mentoring of other engineers and technicians within the team.
  • • The ability to consistently demonstrate decisive business impact and a continuous drive for improvement in an often ambiguous and rapidly evolving technical landscape is highly valued.
  • • Strong communication skills, coupled with the ability to produce appropriately detailed and concise design documentation, are crucial for success in this collaborative role.
  • • Quantinuum is committed to pushing the boundaries of quantum computing. By joining our team, you will be at the forefront of this transformative revolution, helping to shape the future of technology and make the impossible possible.
