- • Sr. Applied AI/ML Scientist role at NewsWhip by Sprout Social focused on building production LLM-powered systems that go beyond chatbots to deliver predictive intelligence for journalists, PR leaders, and global brands by processing millions of news articles and signals in real time.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include architecting and shipping agentic workflows (both ambient and interactive), designing LLM-powered content enrichments for customer reporting and alerts, leading technical direction for tool-augmented LLM systems, making architecture-level decisions on retrieval vs. agents vs. fine-tuning, defining structured prompting standards, driving quality evaluation and observability, improving retrieval and semantic search infrastructure, and partnering with Product and UX to translate AI ideas into shipped features.
- • The team operates within NewsWhip’s AI, Data and Intelligence Business Unit at Sprout Social, where they tackle high-stakes problems in news and media intelligence requiring rigorous evaluation frameworks, hallucination reduction, and factual grounding due to real-world consequences of inaccuracies.
- • In this role, you will learn to build LLM systems that reason, retrieve, enrich, and act across demanding content domains, gain autonomy to make architectural decisions, mentor engineers, influence cross-functional design discussions, stay at the frontier of emerging models and frameworks, and establish yourself as a go-to expert for applied AI best practices while shaping the long-term AI roadmap.
🎯 Requirements
- • 6+ years of experience building and operating production software systems
- • 2+ years hands-on experience shipping LLM-powered features in real-world applications
- • Strong backend engineering skills (Python preferred)
- • Experience with Large Language Model APIs, embedding models, vector databases, prompt engineering, LLM evaluation frameworks, and LLMOps practices
- • Track record of owning a system end-to-end in production
- • Experience making and defending architectural trade-offs (model choice, build vs. buy, latency vs. quality)
