• • FutureFit AI Inc. is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our dynamic Integrations & Platform team. This pivotal role is central to building and strengthening the core infrastructure of our innovative AI-powered platform, which is dedicated to helping individuals find better jobs faster and more affordably, with a particular emphasis on those facing barriers to employment. You will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend systems that are crucial for complex integrations with government and enterprise partners, automating manual operational tasks, and enabling the engineering team to operate with greater speed and efficiency.
• • Your primary focus will be on tackling our most technically challenging integration: a sophisticated bidirectional synchronization system. This system demands robust error handling, asynchronous workflows, and advanced operational automation. You will architect and implement the foundational infrastructure and design patterns that not only resolve this immediate challenge but also establish the benchmark for integration reliability and operational excellence across the entire platform.
• • This is a hands-on, high-impact position where your contributions will yield immediate, tangible results. You will directly contribute to reducing production issues, accelerating support resolution times, and building systems that scale reliably. Simultaneously, you will cultivate deep expertise that positions you to lead significant platform initiatives within our expanding infrastructure.
• • In your first 30 days, you will immerse yourself in the existing systems, building strong relationships with engineering, customer success, and support teams. You will conduct a deep dive into our most complex integration, thoroughly understanding its architecture, data models, asynchronous workflows, and error patterns. You will gain proficiency with our debugging tools, including MongoDB for async job tracking, CloudWatch Logs Insights for distributed tracing, and SQL for data validation. Your initial contributions will involve shipping small fixes or improvements, such as resolving straightforward integration bugs or enhancing observability in a specific workflow.
• • Days 31-60 will focus on taking ownership and executing key initiatives. You will lead your first major automation project aimed at eliminating a specific category of manual support work. This will involve building and deploying backend services and AWS Lambda functions to minimize manual intervention in the integration pipeline. You will implement comprehensive observability, including structured logging, metrics, and alerting, to ensure issues are surfaced proactively. You will collaborate closely with the support team to validate the effectiveness of your automation and identify the next high-impact opportunity. Furthermore, you will document runbooks and develop internal tools to empower non-technical team members to diagnose and resolve common issues independently. Collaboration with external partners on API changes or coordinated deployments will also be a key responsibility. You will also begin identifying reusable infrastructure and patterns for other integrations.
• • From days 61-90, you will focus on leading and amplifying your impact. You will measure and communicate the success of your automation initiatives, highlighting reductions in support tickets, manual intervention time, and improvements in data consistency. You will actively participate in architectural discussions and planning for other platform initiatives, contributing your expertise in reliability patterns, asynchronous workflows, and operational excellence. You will mentor other engineers on the patterns and infrastructure you've developed, becoming a subject matter expert. You will also present a technical deep-dive to the broader engineering team, sharing your learnings and built solutions.
• • The role requires strong backend development experience with TypeScript/Node.js and modern AWS services like Lambda, EventBridge, and SQS. A deep understanding of distributed systems patterns, including idempotency, retries, eventual consistency, and error handling, is essential. Experience building and maintaining integrations with third-party APIs, proficiency with SQL or NoSQL databases for production systems, and strong debugging and troubleshooting skills are also critical.
• • Highly valuable skills include GraphQL API design, experience with MongoDB or DynamoDB for managing async workflows, SQL/data warehouse experience (Redshift, PostgreSQL), familiarity with government APIs or legacy enterprise systems, event-driven architecture at scale using serverless patterns, and proficiency with observability platforms like CloudWatch Logs Insights or New Relic. Experience with multi-tenant architectures is also a plus.
• • We are looking for candidates with 5-8+ years in backend, platform, or integration engineering roles, with a proven track record of building reliable systems for complex external integrations. Experience building and maintaining bidirectional sync systems, designing event-driven architectures with serverless technologies, and integrating with systems with incomplete documentation are highly desirable. Extensive experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases, building operational automation, implementing comprehensive observability, and working in environments with strict SLAs or compliance requirements are also key. Collaboration with customer support and success teams is a must.
