Full Job Description

📋 Description

  • As a Senior Compliance Officer at Acorns, you will play a critical role in safeguarding the company’s mission of financial wellness by ensuring all operations adhere to evolving regulatory standards and internal policies, directly protecting customers and upholding trust in the fintech ecosystem.
  • You will design, implement, and maintain comprehensive broker-dealer and investment advisory procedures and SOPs, aligning them with current and anticipated regulatory changes to mitigate risk and support scalable, compliant growth.
  • Your day-to-day responsibilities will include auditing public communications and marketing materials for regulatory compliance, reviewing customer interactions to identify and document complaints, and ensuring timely, integrity-driven resolution of all concerns.
  • You will lead mandatory regulatory compliance training for registered associates, translating complex rules into clear, actionable guidance that fosters a culture of awareness and adherence across teams.
  • Acting as a trusted subject matter expert, you will advise leadership and key stakeholders on compliance implications of strategic initiatives, product launches, and operational decisions, enabling informed, risk-aware business planning.
  • You will serve as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies, coordinating responses to inquiries and examinations, preparing documentation, and representing Acorns with professionalism and precision during audits or investigations.
  • Through proactive risk assessments and ongoing monitoring, you will identify emerging compliance vulnerabilities, recommend corrective actions, and partner with cross-functional teams to implement sustainable solutions that strengthen the control environment.
  • Collaboration is central to your role — you will work closely with other compliance officers, legal, product, engineering, and marketing teams to align on priorities, share insights, and drive enterprise-wide compliance excellence.
  • You will continuously monitor regulatory developments, attend industry briefings, and maintain expert-level knowledge of FINRA, SEC, and state-level regulations to ensure Acorns remains ahead of regulatory curves and positioned as a trusted innovator.
  • About the team and company: Acorns is a mission-driven, remote-first fintech leader committed to democratizing wealth-building through innovative, accessible financial tools — serving over 14 million users and managing over $25 billion in assets since 2014.
  • The compliance function operates as a strategic partner within a values-driven culture rooted in Lead With Heart, Make Bold Decisions, Always Build Trust, Never Stop Growing, and Find a Way — where integrity is non-negotiable and every employee is empowered to own outcomes.
  • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in fintech compliance, gain exposure to cutting-edge regulatory challenges in digital investing, and develop leadership influence without formal authority — shaping how compliance enables innovation rather than hinders it.
  • You will have the opportunity to contribute to Acorns’ recognition as a Time ‘World’s Best Brand’ while advancing your career through structured development programs, mentorship, and access to resources like the Acorns Career Development Program and Roots Leadership Program.

🎯 Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in financial services compliance, with specific expertise in broker-dealer and investment advisory regulations (FINRA, SEC, state securities laws).
  • Active FINRA licenses: SIE, Series 7, Series 24, Series 63, and either Series 65 or Series 66 are required for this role.
  • Proven ability to design, implement, and audit compliance procedures and SOPs, including experience managing regulatory inquiries and examinations from governing bodies.
  • Strong risk assessment and decision-making skills, with the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into practical business actions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of educating diverse audiences and advising senior leadership with clarity and confidence.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical conduct, continuous learning, and alignment with Acorns’ mission of financial wellness for all.

🏖️ Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $128,000–$138,000/year, plus equity grants and discretionary cash bonus awards.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company matching, and paid time off (vacation, sick, parental leave).
  • Monthly Acorns account contribution and GoHenry account for your family to support financial wellness at home.
  • Access to mindfulness and financial wellness resources, including Headspace and Addition Wealth subscriptions.
  • Participation in the Acorns Career Development Program (ongoing training, development plans, check-ins, Cornerstone platform) and Roots Leadership Program for emerging leaders.
  • Flexible remote work arrangement with optional access to office space in Irvine, CA, and opportunities for community week onsite gatherings and virtual events.
